Osmania Surgery medico death case: Family alleges ragging, probe underway

Hyderabad: The family members of the first-year postgraduate in the Department of General Surgery at Osmania General Hospital, Hyderabad, who was found dead in his hostel room, have alleged that their son was a victim of ragging.
Raising suspicion over the circumstances surrounding his death, his family alleged harassment, which may have pushed him to take the extreme step.
The police investigating the matter informed that the student had been facing depression for the past few days and was reportedly undergoing counselling. However, the exact cause behind his death is under investigation.

According to information reported by News 18, the student reportedly committed suicide by consuming a combination of anesthetic injections and sleeping pills. He had joined the MS (general surgery) programme about three months ago and was staying in the hostel attached to Osmania General Hospital.
Medical Dialogues had reported about the tragic death of the student, following which the Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA) expressed profound grief over his untimely death and stated that his loss is not only a personal tragedy for his family and friends but also a significant loss to the entire healthcare community.
His sudden demise has sent shockwaves through the medical fraternity in Telangana, with colleagues describing him as a young and dedicated doctor with a promising future who was committed to serving patients with compassion and sincerity.
As per TOI media report, the incident took place in the morning when fellow students grew suspicious when he did not respond to them. They broke open the door and found him lying unconscious on the bed. He was immediately shifted to the casualty department, where doctors declared him dead.
Following this, his mother filed a complaint and the police registered a case based on it. An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding his death.
In her complaint, the mother said that her son spoke to her every day. On Thursday around 8.45 am, she received a call from his friend informing her that he had been found unconscious.
She told police that she suspected her son may have taken the step due to pressure from senior students and sought action against those responsible.
Following the incident, the student's relatives along with tribal organizations staged a protest at the Osmania Hospital mortuary. They demanded that strict action be taken against those responsible for his death and a fair probe be conducted into the matter.
