LLRM Medical College Junior Resident alleges Sexual harassment; ENT HoD Booked after protest
Meerut: The Head of the ENT Department at Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College (LLRM Medical College) has been booked after a junior resident at the institute levelled allegations of molestation against him.
Supporting the resident doctor and demanding suspension of the HoD, medicos at the LLRM Medical College observed a protest following which the FIR was registered under Sections 354 A (sexual harassment) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
In her complaint, the doctor informed the police that the incident took place when the HoD was alone at his residence recently and called her to get signatures on the pending bills. She stated that the senior allegedly tried to force himself on her but she managed to escape.
TOI quotes the complaint as, "When I was about to leave, he tried to grab me from behind. Despite my resistance, he again pulled me towards himself and tried to kiss and touch me inappropriately. When I finally pushed him hard, he threatened to fail me"
"My colleagues and others came to help me, and we went straight to the police station which is also situated within the campus. The doctor phoned me twice after the incident, but I did not pick up the mobile out of fear," read the complaint; reports the Indian Express
After the alleged incident came to light, the infuriated resident doctors attached to the medical college in support of the junior resident, staged a protest demanding immediate arrest and suspension of the HoD. They took out a march to Principal RC Gupta's residence and informed him of their demands.
Dr Sanket Tyagi, ex-president of Resident Doctor's Association told ANI, "We are protesting in her support. We have given a complaint and have full faith in the administration that they will take appropriate action".

Meanwhile, the police lodged an FIR against the accused doctor who is reportedly on the run.
"We have registered the statement of the complainant and she has been medically examined. The accused doctor is absconding and raids are being conducted to nab him... We were initially looking for the accused doctor to get his statement on the allegation but he chose to go in hiding which instantly brings him under the scanner," SP (City) Akhilesh Natrayn Singh said.
Observing the uproar within the institute, Dr Gupta has constituted a committee to probe the allegations. "The students had already approached the police and got FIR registered by the time I got to know about the incident. On the request of students, I have ordered a three-member committee to probe the matter," the Principal told TOI.
