MARD threaten to go on an indefinite strike from Thursday Morning

Mumbai: Following inaction after the strike of resident doctors at GMCH Nagpur, yesterday on the termination of Dr Makrand Vyawahare, Central MARD has threatened to hold a Maharashtra wide strike if the demands are not met by Wednesday evening.

This comes after doctor and medical students of GMCH went on an indefinite strike yesterday as a mark of protest against the authorities who still have done an enquiry against the
accused
doctor. Supporting the striking doctors, the press note of Central MARD stated " The nagpur incident.. where one resident doctor tried to commit , female resident doctor filed a complain of sexual harassment and 1000 undergraduates complained against 1 person is very serious.. Just because he is a relative of finance minister, he cannot be given special treatment.The medical education secretary office, DMER and GMC Nagpur dean have failed to perform their duty. As a result, left with no other option, Central MARD has decided to go on an indefinite strike from Thursday morning, 8 am all over Maharahstra."

Central MARD, an organisation having more than 4500 members as members, has also demanded Dr Vyawahare must be immediately suspended and enquiry committee of preferable 3 retired judges set up for departmental enquiry.

This is second time that MARD will go on strike in 6 months period. Earlier during the strike in the month of July, Central MARD was promised a number of things, none of which have been completed. As pointed out by Dr Sagar Mundada, President MARD, following is the status of the previous demands


  1. Security upgradation had been promised by 30 November, no action has been taken yet.

  2. OBC/SC/ST freeship decision, No action taken till now

  3. Stipend increment by Rs 5000, no action taken till now

  4. Sanction of TB/Maternity Leave, Files still stuck in bureaucratic red tape

  5. Starting of Fellowships in Various departments as per MUHS guidelines, still no HODs from any college has taken any step in this regard

  6. No college has filled up the format and information regarding sanctioned by vacant post of lecturers, which is necessary to increase the PG seats and implement Central Residency Scheme.
