Incidence of covid 19 a greater risk for diabetes mellitus
A recent cohort study conducted in Germany was a retrospective analysis, which comprised a representative panel of 1171 physicians' practicing throughout the country. The research included approximately 8.8 million patients. Study reported that previously infected covid-19 people are at a higher risk of getting diabetes mellitus as glucose metabolism is greatly altered, and it's a serious concern that needs attention.
Study findings were published in Diabetologia, 2022. It was seen that individuals with Covid-19 showed an increased type 2 diabetes incidence compared with acute upper respiratory tract infections which were 15.8 vs 12.3 per 1000 person-years. The Incident Risk Ratio was not increased for other forms of diabetes.
