PG Medical Admission 2025-26: NMC Releases List, Issues Verification Guidelines
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has uploaded admission details of 52,690 students enrolled in postgraduate medical education programmes in broad-specialty disciplines for the 2025- 26 academic session. The records cover students admitted to MD, MS and postgraduate diploma programmes across medical colleges and institutions regulated by the commission. The information has been published on the NMC portal following a notice from the Post Graduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB), which has asked students to verify their names and admission details. Students have been advised to carefully check the published records and take note of any discrepancies or omissions.
Candidates whose names are missing from the list have been specifically advised to contact their respective Directorate of Medical Education or counselling authority through their medical college for resolution. The consolidated list follows multiple PGMEB directions requiring medical colleges to submit admission data. The board initially sought the information through notices issued in March 2025, with the submission deadline later extended. A further extension announced on May 25, 2026, allowed institutions to upload details until June 8, 2026, reports The Telegraph.
FMG Internship 2026: 1,067 Seats, Only 266 Filled; Calcutta HC Says Stipend Burden Cannot Block Allotment
In a recent order, the Calcutta High Court observed that the State Government cannot use the financial liability of paying internship stipends as a "roadblock" to allot internship seats to medical graduates from abroad.
"The State, therefore, cannot use the issue of financial outgo towards stipend payable, as a road block for allotting internship to the writ petitioners/appellants," observed the HC Division Bench of Justices Rajasekhar Mantha and Anuj Singh, further noting that internship could be done even without immediate payment of stipend or on part payment as the claim for stipend could always be settled later.

Hyderabad Hospital, Neurologist Directed to Pay Rs 1 Crore Compensation Over Stroke Treatment Negligence
Holding a Nallagandla-based private hospital and its consultant neurologist guilty of medical negligence resulting in the death of a brain-stroke patient, the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (DCDRC), Hyderabad, directed them to jointly pay Rs 1 crore in compensation to his parents.
Apart from the compensation amount, the bench of President B Uma Venkata Subba Lakshmi and members C Lakshmi Prasanna and B Raji Reddy also directed the hospital and the doctor to pay the patient's family Rs 50,000 in legal costs.

PGI Chandigarh Performs Bilateral Cochlear Implants on 7-Month-Old Infant
PGIMER Chandigarh has achieved a significant milestone by successfully performing simultaneous bilateral cochlear implantation on a seven-month-old infant, among the youngest such procedures reported in India. The surgery was conducted by the Department of Otolaryngology and led by Prof Ramandeep Singh Virk, with support from the audiology, rehabilitation, anaesthesia and ENT teams. The achievement highlights the growing importance of early hearing intervention in infants and the ability of public healthcare institutions to provide advanced cochlear implant services at a very young age, according to The Tribune report.
Healthcare experts emphasise that childhood hearing loss can significantly affect speech, language, learning and overall development when treatment is delayed. Early screening, accurate diagnosis and timely cochlear implantation, where clinically indicated, followed by structured rehabilitation, can improve opportunities for children to develop age-appropriate listening and communication skills. PGIMER said it remains committed to strengthening comprehensive cochlear and auditory brainstem implant care through early diagnosis, specialised surgery, objective intraoperative assessment, evidence-based programming and long-term auditory rehabilitation.
