Hospital, surgeon ordered to pay Rs 35 lakh for service lapse after failing to remove stent Post-PCNL
The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Patna, recently directed a hospital and its doctor to pay Rs 35 lakh as compensation and Rs 1 lakh as litigation costs to a patient who suffered complications after undergoing PCNL surgery at the facility and lost his opportunity to go abroad and pursue his career.

During the consumer complaint case proceedings, an expert panel noted that the ureteric catheter left in place during PCNL was not removed during the follow-up stage on RT side but Left left-sided Stunt was removed. RT-sided Stent left was the cause of morbidity of the patient.

Supreme Court to decide on guidelines for ICU and CCU patient treatment
The Supreme Court is set to take up the case concerning the guidelines to regulate the functioning of the intensive care units (ICUs) and critical care units (CCUs) across the country and its implementation.

Back in September, the Apex Court was informed that only eight States and Union Territories (UTs) had so far implemented the Union Government's guidelines issued in September 2023.

Lab attendant learns ECG from YouTube and performs it at Jodhpur hospital, video goes viral
In a shocking incident that has sparked widespread public concern, a lab attendant at Jodhpur's state-run hospital became the centre of attention after he performed an ECG scan on a patient after watching a YouTube clip due to the unavailability of
doctors
and staff during Diwali. The purported video of the incident has gone viral on social media prompting the administration to launch an inquiry.

In the viral video, the family members of the patient could be seen raising objections saying that conducting the scan without proper knowledge could kill him, to which the attendant said he had no other option as there was no staff.

SC rejects plea against two questions in NEET 2024
The Supreme Court recently dismissed a plea challenging two questions in this year's National Eligibility-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) examination.

Earlier, the Delhi High Court had refused to declare these two questions to be incorrect and grant bonus marks to the aspirants. When the High Court's order was challenged before the Supreme Court, the bench comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) D.Y. Chandrachud, Justices J.B. Pardiwala and Manoj Misra dismissed the plea noting that it could not allow to "unseat the whole process".
