Health Ministry Details NMC Actions Against Medical Colleges Failing Quality Norms in Parliament

While discussing the measures implemented by the National Medical Commission (NMC) to enhance the quality of medical education in the country, the Union Minister of State for Health, Smt Anupriya Patel, also specified before the Rajya Sabha about the consequences faced by the medical colleges across India when they fail such quality norms.

As per the Minister, colleges found deficient in any of the parameters, including faculty, infrastructure, or clinical requirements, are issued show-cause notices and asked to submit compliance reports and further evaluations are conducted based on these submissions. If the colleges are found guilty of any major non-compliance, they are imposed with monetary penalties and reduction of MBBS seats etc.

New Delhi: Pointing out that around 10,000 candidates are still awaiting the refund of their NEET SS 2024 counselling fees, the doctors have urged the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) to provide a prompt refund of the NEET SS 2024 counselling fees.

Writing to the Chairperson of the MCC, the doctors have highlighted how the prolonged delay in issuing the refund is causing considerable distress among thousands of aspiring medical professionals.

NMC’s MBBS Seat-Population Cap Deferred for 2024–26 Academic Years: Health Minister Informs Parliament

The Union government has clarified that the National Medical Commission's (NMC) directive to cap MBBS seats based on state population norms will not be enforced for the two academic years of 2024-25 and 2025-26.

"The implementation of capping MBBS seats by the National Medical Commission (NMC) has been deferred for the academic years 2024-25 and 2025-26," Union Health Minister JP Nadda told the Rajya Sabha recently.

UP Shocker: Woman Dies After Quacks Perform Surgery Using YouTube Tutorial, FIR Filed

In a shocking incident that has angered local residents, a 38-year-old woman died after two men pretending to be doctors allegedly performed a so-called stone removal surgery on her abdomen by following YouTube tutorial videos.

The botched surgery happened at an illegal clinic run by the former village head, who, along with his nephew performed the surgery. Neither of them had any medical degree or training. They reportedly watched YouTube surgical tutorial videos and then tried to perform the abdominal surgery, which led to the woman’s death due to gross negligence.
