UP Shocker: Woman dies after two quacks perform stone removal surgery by watching YouTube video, FIR registered

Barabanki: In a shocking incident that has angered local residents, a 38-year-old woman died after two men pretending to be doctors allegedly performed a so-called stone removal surgery on her abdomen by following YouTube tutorial videos.
The botched surgery happened at an illegal clinic run by the former village head, who, along with his nephew performed the surgery. Neither of them had any medical degree or training. They reportedly watched YouTube surgical tutorial videos and then tried to perform the abdominal surgery, which led to the woman’s death due to gross negligence.
Following the incident, the police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the two men based on a complaint filed by the woman’s husband. However, the duo is currently absconding.

The incident took place on December 5 2025 after the woman was suffering from abdominal pain, so her husband took her to the clinic. After examining her by simply touching her stomach, the former village head told the husband that she had a stone that needed immediate surgery. The accused demanded Rs 25,000 for the procedure, but agreed to Rs 20,000 when the husband said he could arrange only that much.
According to the locals, the accused duo watched surgical videos on YouTube before attempting the procedure. During the botched operation, the duo reportedly made a deep incision in the woman's abdomen, cutting through important nerves and blood vessels.
The husband told News18, "He didn’t conduct any tests. He just touched her stomach and said it was a stone that needed to be removed immediately. He said delaying it could make it fatal. We could arrange only Rs 20,000, but he said it was enough. We trusted him because he was a former pradhan. They had no idea where to cut or how to handle bleeding. It was clear they were improvising."
After the so-called operation, the woman’s condition worsened. She died the next evening, around 6 pm.
Following her death, the deceased's family members and locals staged a protest by blocking the road and placing her body on it. They were demanding immediate action against the accused.
Shortly after, the police reached the spot, assured them of action, and the protest ended. The body was sent for postmortem, and the family performed her last rites after receiving the postmortem report on December 7.
The husband told News18 that the accused tried to bribe him to settle the matter, but he refused and insisted on filing an FIR.
As a result, he approached the police and filed a complaint agaisnt the accused duo. Based on his complaint, the police regsitered a case of a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder Both accused are absconding, and teams have been deployed to track them down.
On Tuesday, Dr Sanjeev Kumar, Medical Superintendent of Kothi Community Health Centre, pasted a notice shutting down the clinic.
He said, "The investigation clearly shows that neither of them has any medical degree, license or training. Running such a facility is a serious offence."
