Strict measures have been implemented in Karnataka to curb private practice by the government doctors in the state. With this, Government doctors in Karnataka are not permitted to take up private practice during working hours for any reason, Karnataka Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil informed the Legislative Council. Besides, Minister Patil stated that the timing of the doctors' working hours has been revised from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The State has also introduced a biometrics attendance system for the government hospital staff to mark their attendance four times a day.
As per the Minister, the salaries of the Government doctors will now be processed based on their attendance and the State would also take disciplinary action against those who violate the rules.

The Supreme Court bench recently stated that the matter related to admission of meritorious reserved category candidates to the open seats in postgraduate medical courses cannot be examined in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) as it would require consideration of various complexities related to the matter.
Former Judge Justice Eswaraiah, filed the PIL as the President of All India Backward Classes Federation seeking a writ of mandamus seeking a declaration that Rule II (vi) and (viii) of the Government Order Ms No. 43 dated 13th March 2013 issued by State of Andhra Pradesh and provisions in the relevant Rules issued by the State of Telangana as illegal, arbitrary, unconstitutional and against the principles laid down by the Court.

In a shocking incident of medical negligence, a pregnant woman recently lost her life due to post-operative complications from a botched surgical procedure after a doctor who was not physically present at his clinic guided his compounder to conduct the surgery via video call.
The botched operation was conducted at a private clinic in Begusarai, owned by the doctor, who was reportedly in Delhi at the time when the pregnant woman was brought to his clinic. After the operation went wrong, leading to the patient's death, the doctor and his staff reportedly fled the clinic, abandoning it.

In a shocking case of cyber fraud reported in the city, a 42-year-old doctor from Tamil Nadu's Vellore allegedly lost an astonishing Rs 2.23 crore and 95 thousand in just 19 days to a gang of cyber fraudsters in a part-time job fraud. Altogether eight accused have been arrested from the gang so far, involving an alleged serial cybercriminal from Payyannur.
Over 19 days, from May 17 to June 4, the doctor transferred Rs 2,23,94,993 to 18 different accounts spread across Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Bihar, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Delhi.
