Compounder performs surgery with Doctor on video call, pregnant woman dies

Medical Negligence
Begusarai: In a shocking incident of medical negligence, a pregnant woman recently lost her life due to post-operative complications from a botched surgical procedure after a doctor who was not physically present at his clinic guided his compounders to conduct the surgery via video call.
The botched operation was conducted at a private clinic in Begusarai, owned by the doctor, who was reportedly in Delhi at the time when the pregnant woman was brought to his clinic. After the operation went wrong, leading to the patient's death, the doctor and his staff reportedly fled the clinic, abandoning it.

According to a News 18 news report, locals believe that the police officials tried to cover up the case as the woman's body was cremated hastily. Locals speculate that a significant amount of money may have changed hands between the doctor, the police, and the victim’s family to keep the matter under wraps.
The shocking case came to light after a viral post circulating in a WhatsApp group named ‘Begusarai Breaking’ exposed the incident, triggering widespread outrage. News 18, investigating the matter, revealed that the pregnant woman was brought to the private clinic due to the absence of a medical officer at Teghra Sub-Divisional Hospital, who was on leave.
However, the doctor was also unavailable at his clinic. In his absence, the compounder, without any medical knowledge or experience, allegedly conducted the surgery under the doctor’s remote supervision. Soon after, the woman died from the botched surgery.
Following the woman’s death, her relatives stormed the clinic in protest. However, both the doctor and his staff reportedly fled the scene. As of now, the relatives of the deceased have not filed an official complaint against the doctor and staff, so an investigation could be launched into this matter.
Commenting on the matter, District Magistrate (DM) Tushar Singhla told News 18, "An investigation would be conducted in the matter. So far, the victim’s family members have not commented officially. However, locals allege that the Teghra police played a role in suppressing the matter."
While investigating the case, the Daily found through the locals that the doctor was involved in similar cases before, as they claim that this is not the first time such allegations have surfaced against the doctor's clinic.
“If these allegations are true, it is a deeply disturbing case of medical negligence. Strict action must be taken against those responsible," a social activist told News 18.
