MARD survey finds 33% medical colleges delay stipends, 11% doctors report safety issues

Medical colleges across Maharashtra are operating under compounded conditions, including inadequate security, unsafe living quarters, delayed stipends, and poor hospital infrastructure, a recent survey conducted by the Central Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) revealed.

The survey was conducted across 18 government medical colleges in Maharashtra, including GGMC &Sir JJH Mumbai, GMC Nagpur, GMCH Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, BJGMC Pune, VDGMC Latur, IGGMC Nagpur, RCSM GMC Kolhapur, MPGIMER MUHS Nashik, GMC Akola, GMC Gondia, GMC Miraj, VMGMC Solapur, Rajiv Gandhi Medical College, KMSK GMCH Chandrapur, PAH GMC Baramati, SBHGMC Dhule, DR.SCGMC Nanded, and SVNGMC Yavatmal. It highlighted the conditions affecting 5,800 healthcare professionals across these 18 institutes.

Highlighting the hurdles faced by female postgraduate medical doctors working in government and private hospitals in Telangana during their maternity leave, doctors have demanded urgent intervention from relevant authorities to address these issues promptly.

Doctors under the Telangana Senior Resident Doctors Association (TSRDA) have alleged that the lack of clear guidelines from the University and a communication gap between the University and medical colleges are resulting in confusion and inconsistent practices.

MoS Health clarifies AIIMS Kerala not sanctioned under current PMSSY phase

The Central Government has clarified that no proposal to establish an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Kerala has been included in the current phase of the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), despite repeated requests from the State Government.

Responding to a series of questions, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prataprao Jadhav stated that the Kerala government had informed the Centre about the identification of land in Kinaloor, Kozhikode district, for the establishment of an AIIMS in 2025. However, he stated that “there is no proposal for the establishment of AIIMS in Kerala in the current phase of PMSSY.”

2nd WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine scheduled from 17-19 December

The Ministry of Ayush has organized a Curtain Raiser Press Conference at the National Media Centre, New Delhi, ahead of the 2nd WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine, to be held from 17-19 December 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

Union Minister of State (IC) for Ayush, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, expressed great pride that India will host the Second WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine, following the successful first edition held in Gujarat in 2023. He stated that this Summit stands as another important milestone in the collective global effort to mainstream traditional medicine for the health, happiness, and well-being of humanity, in alignment with India’s vision of “Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, Sarve Santu Niramayah.”
