Andhra Medical College gets NMC nod for 15 PG medical seats
Bringing good news to the Postgraduate medical aspirants in Andhra Pradesh, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has given its nod for increasing 15 PG medical seats for the Andhra Medical College (AMC) in the first phase.
While four seats will be increased each in the orthopaedic & biochemistry departments, six seats will be added in radiology and one in nephrology, adds TNIE.

Consumer Court relies on expert opinion, exonerates Ophthalmologist for FIT to FLY advice resulting in permanent eye damage
The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has exonerated a Kolkata-based hospital and eye surgeon from charges of medical negligence while providing treatment to a patient who was suffering from Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment.
Although the patient claimed that the doctor wrongly advised him 'fit to fly' after the surgery, resulting in permanent damage to his eye, the NCDRC bench dismissed the complaint after referring to the expert opinion given by AIIMS medical board.

IACTS confers Lifetime Achievement Award to Padma Shri Dr Prasada Rao
Padmashri Dr. Dasari Prasada Rao, former Director of Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences and Chairman, Nano Hospitals Pvt. Ltd.; was conferred the prestigious Lifetime Achievement award by the Indian Association of Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgeons (IACTS) - the association of heart surgeons of India, at its 69th Annual Conference, held at Coimbatore.
He was felicitated with the coveted award in recognition of his yeoman service and excellence in heart, lung and liver surgeries, spanning over four decades. Chief Guest Shri MA. Subramanian, Minister for Medical and Health, Tamil Nadu; Dr. Jail Singh Mehrwal, President, IACTS and Dr. C.S. NEET 'violates' federal structure: Tamil Nadu moves Supreme Court challenging validity of MBBS entrance test
The matter of NEET exemption has now reached the Supreme Court with the state of Tamil Nadu filing a lawsuit challenging the validity of the MBBS entrance test.
The Tamil Nadu government has argued that the introduction of NEET is violative of the federal structure, as it takes away the power of the States to admit students to Government Seats in medical colleges.

Adenovirus taking alarming shape among children in West Bengal
A sharp spike in cases of adenovirus has been recorded in West Bengal. The beds in the paediatric care units of state-run and private hospitals are filling up fastly.
At least two children admitted with respiratory problems in two separate state-run child hospitals died on Sunday. Officials are yet to confirm their disease. Medical colleges run by State have been asked to make provisions so that additional pediatric beds for respiratory infection cases may be arranged.
