CJP Protest: Demands ₹1 Crore Compensation in NEET Deaths, Pradhan's Resignation & Wangchuk's Release

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which has been leading protests over the alleged NEET UG 2026 paper leak, on Monday submitted a memorandum to Union Health Minister JP Nadda, demanding action over the examination controversy. The delegation sought the removal of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, compensation of ₹1 crore for the families of NEET aspirants who allegedly died by suicide following the paper leak, and the release of activist Sonam Wangchuk. The memorandum was submitted after thousands of protesters attempted to march towards Parliament, alleging repeated failures in the conduct of national examinations and demanding accountability for the NEET controversy.

According to the CJP, the alleged NEET UG 2026 paper leak exposed deep flaws in the examination system and reflected wider institutional failures. The protest, which began over NEET-related issues, later expanded to include concerns over other national examinations. Hours before the memorandum was submitted, protesters were stopped near Parliament Street by heavy police barricading, with police using lathicharge and tear gas to disperse the crowd. After meeting the delegation, JP Nadda said discussions were held in a cordial atmosphere and urged protesters to end their agitation while assuring them that their demands would be considered.

NMC Approves 810 Additional MBBS Seats, Telangana Crosses 10,000 Mark

Telangana has become one of only five states in India to have more than 10,000 MBBS seats after the National Medical Commission (NMC) approved 810 additional seats for the 2026-27 academic year.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that a total of 1,36,939 MBBS seats, excluding those in Institutes of National Importance (INIs), are available across 823 medical colleges in India for the 2026-27 academic session.

NHA Slaps ₹114 Crore Fine on 2,842 Hospitals in Ayushman Bharat Fraud

The National Health Authority (NHA) has penalised 2,842 hospitals under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PMJAY) for fraudulent practices during the financial year 2025-26, imposing penalties amounting to Rs 114.06 crore, according to the NHA's Annual Report 2025-26.

The report stateed that the action was taken by the NHA's National Anti-Fraud Unit (NAFU) as part of its efforts to curb misuse of the flagship health insurance scheme. Besides financial penalties, 2,003 hospitals were de-empanelled, while 839 hospitals were suspended. The authority also blocked Rs 678.47 crore worth of suspicious claims before they could be paid.

India Approves First Dengue Vaccine Qdenga for Individuals Aged 4 to 60

In a major public health milestone, India has approved its first dengue vaccine, offering new hope against one of the country’s most widespread mosquito-borne diseases. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has granted marketing authorisation to Qdenga, developed by Takeda GmbH, Germany, for preventing dengue in individuals aged 4 to 60 years. The vaccine will be imported and marketed in India by Takeda Biopharmaceuticals India Pvt. Ltd. Qdenga is a live, attenuated tetravalent dengue vaccine administered as two 0.5 ml subcutaneous doses, given three months apart.

The approval follows extensive evaluation of the vaccine’s quality, safety and efficacy, including a pivotal Phase III clinical trial conducted in India and studies across several dengue-endemic countries. According to the Health Ministry, Qdenga has already been approved in 42 countries, including the UK, European Union, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, and has also received WHO prequalification. More than 24 million doses have been distributed globally with a favourable safety profile. The government said the vaccine will complement existing dengue prevention strategies such as vector control, surveillance, early diagnosis and effective case management under the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme.
