AIIMS to offer PG course in Family Medicine

In order to meet the current shortage of specialists in the country, the government has planned to commence an MD course in the speciality of Family Medicine at six branches of the premier All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

Speaking to PTI about the development, official sources informed that the MD Family Medicine course will be first offered at AIIMS Raipur, Rishikesh, Jodhpur, Patna, Bhubaneswar and Bhopal campuses. Looking at the response, the course would be started in more hospitals across the country in due course of time.

Infant boyborn with 2 genitalia in Brazil 

Due to a rare medical condition infant boy was born with 2 genitalia in Brazil. However, doctors cut a bigger one through surgery. The rare medical condition of the boy is called diphallia. It is reported that this condition is recorded in one in a million babies.

Talking about the condition, doctors in Sao Paulo said 100 men so far reported the condition in the history of medical literature.

Return salary, allowance on quitting job: Chhattisgarh govt tells doctors   

Introducing a new set of rules for the newly appointed doctors, Chhattisgarh Health Department has made it clear that the doctors will have to return back the salary and allowances in case they leave their job midway or they are terminated from service before the three-year probation period is over.

Not only this, the Government rules further state that during the first year of probation, the doctors will only receive only 70 per cent of their salary, and this will be increased to 80 per cent in the second year and 90 per cent in the third year.

No XE variant in Delhi yet, shows genome testing  

The genome sequencing done so far on the samples of Covid-19 positive cases do not suggest presence of the XE variant in Delhi, people in the know told ET.

The XE variant is a recombination of Omicron variants BA.1 and BA.2. The XE variant has so far been identified in the United Kingdom, India, China and Thailand.

NMC slams 5 medical colleges in Telangana over lack of faculty, issues show cause notice 

Pointing out deficiencies, the National Medical Commission has recently issued show-cause notices to five private medical colleges in Telangana.

This comes after the a team of the apex medical regulator NMC inspected those medical colleges and found lack in all aspects including internal infrastructure, availability of doctors and their ability of teaching students.
