Telangana HC recommends quota for Transgenders in NEET PG admission
The Telangana High Court has directed the State Government, Central Government and National Medical Commission (NMC) to provide reservation under the transgender quota to NEET PG candidates seeking admission for post-graduate (PG) medical courses in 2023.
The court passed the order on a petition by Dr Koyyala Ruth John Paul, a transgender woman who belongs to the Scheduled Caste.

Maharashtra private medical colleges hike MBBS fee by Rs 1 lakh this year
The private medical colleges in Maharashtra will charge the MBBS aspirants slightly higher fees this year with an increase of up to Rs 1 lakh per annum. However, the hike is marginal and the fee structure at most of the medical colleges is steady.
In fact, in a few of the medical colleges, the tuition fees have been reduced due to the increased scrutiny by the Fee Regulating Authority (FRA). While commenting on the matter, an FRA official told TOI that the decline in expenditure during the COVID-19 pandemic may have contributed to the lower increase of fees.
"For the last few years we have been considering the higher fees charged under NRI and institutional quota as colleges' income, which has helped in keeping the hikes stable," said the official.

UCMS accused of misappropriating funds by claiming to run TB and Respiratory medicine department in collusion with NMC, HC junks plea
Finding no merit in the accusation that the University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS) was fraudulently misappropriating funds by claiming to run the Department of TB and Respiratory Medicine in collusion with National Medical Commission, NMC officials, the Delhi High Court has recently dismissed a petition. It was vehemently contended in the petition that the no such Department of TB and Respiratory Medicine is being run in the UCMS.
However, the bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad noted that the material on record indicated that the UCMS has a separate Department of Respiratory Medicine, headed by Dr Amit Kumar Verma along with other faculty members.
The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by the Petitioner RK Tarun, a lawyer, sought action against NMC officials for conducting fraud inspections and submitting fabricated Inspection reports of a non-existent department of TB and Respiratory Medicine/Pulmonary Medicine at the UCMS and the associated Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital.
