Madras HC bars medical college from charging extra tuition fees, directs refund to MBBS students

Observing that education must not be merely viewed as a commercial venture, but must remain a noble service, the Madras High Court recently ruled against medical colleges charging additional tuition fees in the name of a break fee or miscellaneous fee.

While hearing a batch of petitions filed by MBBS students from CARE University, who challenged the break fee imposed on them, the HC bench comprising Justice GK Ilanthiraiyan also directed the Chettinad Academy of Research and Education (CARE) University to refund the deposit made by the students with interest of 6% per annum.

Red Fort Car Blast: Accused doctor used flour mill to grind explosives

An ordinary flour mill grinder became a key tool for the arrested doctor from Pulwama to turn chemical substances into explosives, possibly similar to those used in the deadly car blast near Red Fort that killed 15 people and injured several others.

The National Investigating Agency (NIA) investigating the case found the explosive-making setup at the house of a taxi driver in Faridabad. The Pulwama doctor, who played a major role in the Delhi blast case, apart from the Al-Falah assistant professor, had rented a room there and stored a flour mill, a grinder, and other electronic machines.
