National Task Force: Health Ministry’s terms of reference explained
The National Task Force, constituted by the Supreme Court on Tuesday, shall frame effective recommendations to remedy the issues of concern regarding safety, working conditions, and well-being of medical professionals and other related matters.
This 15-member committee, comprising nine senior doctors and five ex-officio government officials, shall prepare an action plan to prevent violence against medical professionals and provide safe working conditions for them.

Kolkata rape-murder case: Doctors end strike after Supreme Court appeal
In response to the Supreme Court's directive, the Federation of All India Medical Associations (FAIMA) has called off its strike against the brutal rape and murder of a postgraduate medico at R G Kar Medical College Hospital in Kolkata.
In a self-made video message, FAIMA Chairman Dr Rohan Krishnan said that the protests will continue but in a different form.

Kolkata doctor death case: West Bengal govt replaces Suhrita Paul, appoints Prof Manas Bandopadhyay as Principal
Only a week after Prof Suhrita Paul was appointed as the principal of RG Kar Medical College Hospital, the West Bengal Health Department recently removed her from the position and transferred her to Barasat Government Medical College and Hospital as the new principal. Following this, Professor Manas Kumar Bandopadhyay has been appointed as the new principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
This move by the government comes in response to a meeting that was held between a delegation of students and officials at Swasthya Bhavan regarding the removal of Suhrita Paul.

HC stays direction to 17 medical colleges to surrender NRI MBBS seats, conditions imposed
Granting relief to altogether 17 private medical colleges, which were earlier directed to surrender a certain number of management/NRI quota MBBS seats to the government quota seats, a Division Bench of the High Court recently stayed the Single Judge bench order in this regard.
These colleges were earlier penalised for violating the norms and admitting students securing lower ranks to MBBS courses in 2018. While granting the stay, the HC Division bench has imposed a condition on the colleges, asking them to deposit the Court the differential amount of fees, charged for the government quota seats in private colleges and the management/NRI quota seats.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee writes PM Modi for fast track courts, 15-day trials in rape cases
In response to the nationwide outrage over the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has urged the central government to introduce national legislation and establish fast-track courts for handling rape cases.
Urging the central government to bring in central legalization and set up fast-track courts for ''sensitive'' issues, to ensure fast speedy trial, West Bengal Mamata Banerjee on Thursday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the wake of the national outrage over the RG Kar medical hospital incident where a second year trainee doctor was raped and murdered.
