PM Modi Promises Tougher Action Against Paper Leaks Amid Ongoing Protests
Amid the NEET paper leak controversy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that the Centre will introduce a fast-track court mechanism to ensure speedy trials and strict punishment for those involved in examination fraud. In a video statement, the Prime Minister said the government had acted quickly to conduct the NEET re-examination so that nearly 22 lakh aspirants did not lose an academic year, according to an NDTV report.
He added that the proposal for fast-track courts has received departmental approval and will be placed before the Union Cabinet before being introduced in Parliament next week. Take a look at the video.
Supreme Court to Hear Plea on Doctors' Duty Hours Under Uniform Residency Scheme on July 31
The Supreme Court of India has listed the plea seeking implementation of the Uniform Residency Scheme, 1992, for resident doctors for a hearing next week, on July 31, 2026.
The plea was listed for oral mentioning before the Apex Court today. Now, the top court bench is likely to hear the matter next week, the Chairperson and National President of the United Doctors Front (UDF), Dr Lakshya Mittal, told Medical Dialogues.

Doctors' duty hours: Supreme Court to hear Uniform residency scheme plea on July 31
MBBS Admissions: Maharashtra Removes Institutional Round for Private Medical Colleges
The Maharashtra government has changed the admission process for undergraduate medical and dental courses in private medical colleges by removing the institutional round and bringing all admissions under the centralised counselling process conducted by the State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell.
Medical Dialogues had reported earlier that the state government was mulling scrapping the institutional round for private medical colleges. The proposal was put forward by the State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell and already received approval from the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER). It was awaiting the state government’s final nod before the upcoming admission session.

In a recent order, the Kerala High Court stated that it is the doctors, and not the patients, who decide which diagnostic tests are required.
Observing that a patient has to follow the advice of the doctor and the matter falls under the diagnostic prerogative of a doctor, the HC bench comprising Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas further made it clear that a patient cannot dictate to the doctor that a particular scan needs to be prescribed.
