Doctors cannot function under threat of being harassed, beaten up: High Court

The Punjab and Haryana High Court recently opined that if the doctors always face the threat of being beaten up by the relatives of the patients, they wouldn't be able to function properly.

Such observations came from the High Court bench comprising of Justice Vikas Bahl while the court was considering a petition filed by a relative of a patient seeking dismissal of an FIR made by a doctor. The doctor had alleged that after the death of the patient the relatives of the patient created turmoil in the hospital, allegedly beat up the doctors and also threatened to murder the doctor concerned.

HC issues notice to state; Plea seeks 5 percent PwD Quota at GMERS Medical Colleges

The discussion regarding reservation has once again taken the spotlight after the Gujarat High Court issued a notice in response to a petition was filed in Gujarat seeking 5% reservation for Persons with Disability (PwD).

According to a recent report by Mirror, on Thursday, 14th October 2021, the Gujarat High Court issued a notice to the state government and other concerned bodies with regard to a petition filed by a young medical aspirant. The petition requested a 5% reservation quota for Persons with Disability in self-financed medical colleges run by the Gujarat Medical Education & Research Society (GMERS). The plea also sought relief that PwD be admitted to the medical college nearest to their residence.

Dr Reddys, MSN Labs launch of generic Empagliflozin may lead to court battle
Taking head-on collision with Boehringer Ingelheim over blockbuster diabetes drug, two Indian pharma giants have recently launched their own versions of Empagliflozin consecutively in last two days. However, the controversial recent launch of affordable copies of Boehringer developed Jardiance by Dr Reddy's Laboratories and MSN Laboratories is expected to lead into a potential acrimonious court battle revolving the drug patent in India.

As per experts, the launch rings an alarm bell since the patent holder of the product, Boehringer Ingelheim may seek legal intervention to restrain Dr Reddy's and MSN Labs from infringing Jardiance.
