The Maharashtra government initiated a recruitment drive on January 31, 2024, to fill crucial specialist positions across state-run hospitals. Following the selection process, appointment orders were issued on June 20, 2024, with candidates expected to complete document verification and join their posts within the stipulated timeframe. However, many never reported for duty.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) is soon going to introduce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for State Medical Councils to address grievances raised by students regarding non-payment of stipends, extended work hours, and complaints regarding teacher-student ratio in medical colleges, Education Times has reported.
By releasing these SOPs, which are expected to be made available by the end of March or early April 2025, the Apex Medical Commission will provide the State Medical Councils with proper instructions on how to handle complaints from medical students.

A 35-year-old woman passed away after a quack allegedly conducted gallstone surgery at an unlicensed private hospital in Shamli, without administering anaesthesia, leading to severe blood loss. Following her death, the woman's family members staged a protest and alleged that the woman died of negligence.
The unlicensed hospital was found locked when officials arrived for inspection, and the hospital owner fled the scene after abandoning the victim’s body in the operation theatre.
