A recent video showing a belly dancer performing at a doctors' conference in Chennai has become viral on social media. Soon after the video surfaced, netizens started questioning holding such an event at an academic conference for doctors.

What was the Event All About?

The viral video is from the 47th Annual Conference of the Association of Colon and Rectal Surgeons of India (ACRSICON). The association organized the conference (ACRSICON 2024) on "Precise and Personalised Surgery". It was held at Taj Coromandel Chennai from 19th September to 21st September 2024.

DNB residents in Chitradurga allege overwork, stipend threats: Doctors' body files RTI for harassment

The Diplomate of National Board (DNB) resident doctors at District Hospital, Chitradugra have alleged facing harassment and threats from the consultants of the hospital.

It has been alleged by the doctors that the consultants are threatening to withhold their stipends for declining duties beyond the requirements of the DNB curriculum.

Raising the issue, the United Doctors Front Association (UDFA) has filed Right to Information (RTI) applications before the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the Karnataka Government seeking the details of the posts sanctioned in the hospital, details of the appointment process, list of DNB and Diploma residents currently associated with the concerned hospital, copies of the complaints regarding any problems submitted by DNB and Diploma residents and the action taken report, details of duties allotted to DNB and Diploma residents in the last three months and the copies of the rules etc.

MBBS CBME 2024 Guidelines outline remedial measures for students ineligible for University exams

The newly released modified Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) 2024 guidelines have specified the remedial measures for MBBS students found to be ineligible to appear in the University Examinations.

Even though in the CBME 2023 guidelines NMC had stated that the Universities should guide the colleges to formulate policies for remedial measures for students, there was nothing specific mentioned in this regard.

Ahmedabad doctor caught red-handed charging Rs 35,000 for illegal sex determination tests

A gynaecologist in Ahmedabad has been caught conducting illegal sex determination tests for Rs 35,000. The Ahmedabad district health officer confirmed that action has been taken against the doctor, and the medical equipment used for the tests has been sealed.

The gynaecologist was conducting pregnancy tests at a hospital in Naroda, an act prohibited under the Pre -conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act. Following a complaint, the district health officer and a team of doctors visited the hospital, gathered evidence, and sealed the pregnancy testing machine.


Doctor loses Rs 6 lakh in 24-hour digital arrest in Jodhpur, FIR filed

In a recent cyber fraud case, a doctor in Jodhpur was duped out of Rs 6 lakh by scammers impersonating police officers. The fraudsters kept the doctor digitally “arrested” for nearly 24 hours and manipulated her into transferring the amount from her account.

The incident occurred days after a doctor from Navi Mumbai fell victim to a cyber fraud, losing Rs. 26.52 lakh. The victim has been identified as a 31-year-old doctor working at Vyas Dental College. He reported the incident to the police after realizing she had been tricked.
