DIY air filter can effectively filter out viruses, air pollutants: Study

A team of researchers from Brown University's School of Public Health, Brown's School of Engineering and Silent Spring Institute found that simple air filtration devices called Corsi-Rosenthal boxes are effective at reducing indoor air pollutants.

The study, which analyzed the effectiveness of Corsi-Rosenthal boxes installed at the School of Public Health to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, is the first peer-reviewed study of the efficacy of the boxes on indoor pollutants, according to the authors.

Lowering indoor air concentrations of commonly-found chemicals known to pose a risk to human health is a way to improve occupant health, according to lead author Joseph Braun, an associate professor of epidemiology at Brown.

The Delhi High Court has sought response of the Centre and the National Medical Commission (NMC) on a medical aspirant's plea challenging the disability certificate issued by Lady Hardinge Medical College which assessed his disability at 100 percent.

According to the petitioner, he has 60 per cent locomotor disability and the assessment of his disability to the extent of 100 percent is untenable "especially when the disability board has itself observed that the petitioner is not using any assistive devices".

Some guts are better than others at harvesting energy

New research from the University of Copenhagen suggests that a portion of the Danish population has a composition of gut microbes that, on average, extracts more energy from food than do the microbes in the guts of their fellow Danes. The research is a step towards understanding why some people gain more weight than others, even when they eat the same.

Unfair as it, some of us seem to put on weight just by looking at a plate of Christmas cookies, while others can munch away with abandon and not gain a gram. Part of the explanation could be related to the composition of our gut microbes. This, according to new research conducted at the University of Copenhagen's Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports.
