HC orders release of Gastroenterologist's certificates, says bond obligations end with service period
Reiterating that the bond obligation was co-terminus with the prescribed service period and could not be extended beyond it, the Madras High Court bench recently granted relief to a Gastroenterologist by directing the Madras Medical College to return his original certificates, which were withheld by the institute on account of the incomplete bond service.
The HC bench comprising Justice N. Mala granted relief to the petitioner after noting that the doctor completed the course in January 2024, and as per the bond conditions, the one-year period had already lapsed.
NMC plans to fill vacant faculty posts with retired army, railway doctors
Aiming to tackle the shortage of faculties in medical colleges, the National Medical Commission (NMC) is reportedly planning to fill up the vacant faculty positions with retired doctors from the army and the railways, Mint has reported.
NMC's decision to utilise the former army and railway doctors to deal with faculty shortage comes in the backdrop of the Economic Survey highlighting faculty shortages, which are affecting the quality of medical training.

In a latest development in the fake cardiologist case, two top UK medical institutions have denied any connection with the conman at the centre of the controversy, Narendra Vikramaditya Yadav, also known as Dr N John Camm.
The Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) and St George’s Hospital in London informed the Madhya Pradesh government that no one by the name Yadav has ever been registered or trained with them.

In yet another medical admission fraud case, 5 individuals have been booked for duping around Rs 15 lakh from a man on the pretext of securing admission in MBBS in ESIC Medical College, Faridabad.
The victim has been identified as Sharma, a resident of Sector-55, Faridabad. He was duped of about Rs 15 lakh to get his daughter admitted to MBBS in ESIC Medical College. The accused has been identified as Manoj Sharma, his wife Monika, Shubham Tiwari, Priyanka and Krishna.
