Here are the top health news for the day:
Currently, there are altogether 1,18,137 MBBS seats available in India and among these 60,422 seats are available in the government medical colleges and 57,715 MBBS seats are available in the private medical colleges, the Union Minister of State for Health Smt. Anupriya Patel informed the Lok Sabha.
Further, there are 73,157 postgraduate seats available across various specialities, the Union MoS Health informed.
Amid the ongoing registration of doctors in the National Medical Register (NMR), the National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed the State Medical Councils to confirm the medical degrees from the concerned foreign medical colleges/universities.
Writing to the State Medical Councils (SMCs), the Secretary of NMC, Dr. B Srinivas has asked to seek confirmation regarding the medical degrees from abroad through the concerned Indian Embassy/High Commission either before granting permanent registration or before recommending them for registration on the National Medical Register. The Apex Medical Commission's directions come with the aim to weed out the fake medical registrations from the NMR.

Recently, a junior student of Odisha's prestigious MKCG Medical College and Hospital has accused his seniors of ragging. Complaining to the anti-ragging cell, the medico claimed that he was mentally and physically tortured when he refused to follow the orders of the seniors.

A petition in the Bombay High Court challenges the MBBS seat allotment process, claiming the State CET Cell applied different rules for specified (hilly areas, handicap, defense) and constitutional reservations. The petitioner’s counsel argued that the rules were inconsistently applied.
The petitioner, a permanent resident of Nashik District, participated in the NEET UG exam and secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 14,874. He filled out a preference form for the Hilly Area (HA) and Open categories and was allocated a seat at Government Medical College, Nagpur, under the HA category in CAP round 1.
