Light Massage and Music Therapy may help reduce Leukemia-Related Pain and Fatigue

Music  as a therapy is popularly known to improve health in psychological, emotional, physical, spiritual, cognitive and social aspects, along with massage it is known to give promising results in relief of pain. Cancer being a much painful disease needs both physical and psychological relief, music and massage is one of the therapeutic options.  

In a new study, researchers have found discovered light massage was more helpful and lasted longer than music therapy in managing leukemia-related pain and exhaustion in adult patients with acute leukemia. Cancer-related pain and exhaustion are typical detriments to quality of life in leukemia patients. Pharmacologic treatments have not been demonstrated to be effective in controlling these symptoms.

Bisphosphonates effective as first-line treatment for osteoporosis or ostopenia

Bisphosphonates are  popular group of drugs that slows bone loss. They reduce the risk of hip and spine fractures. Bisphosphonates can be recommended as a first-line treatment for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis and can decrease the risk of hip fracture among the general population.

 According to a recent study published in the BMJ Journal, meta-analysis and systematic review investigated the efficacy of bisphosphonates on the incidence of hip fracture (IHF) in patients of different ages with osteoporosis or osteopenia. The usage of bisphonates reduced IHF in all age groups  reportedly, however their association wasn't related to age

Covid-19 patients with existing Hemoglobinopathy may have more complications

hemoglobinopathy are a group of  genetic disorders inherited from generations with abnormal production or structure of the hemoglobin molecule. Covid - 19 known to reduce the oxygen level in blood is more deadly for people with history of hemoglobinopathy

According to a new study done by Jun Xin Lee and colleagues, clinical presentation and lab results in individuals with hemoglobinopathy and those without were identical. Patients with hemoglobinopathy died at a higher rate than the general population, and those who have underlying cardiovascular or respiratory illnesses should be handled with extra vigilance.

Extended screen time in youth tied to dry eye and blinking behavior

With developing technology there is an increase in usage of electronic devices, recent lockdown status has added to the rate of usage of devices by shifting education and work to an online mode.

Study were published in the Contact lens and Anterior Eye: Journal of British Contact Lens Association reported extended screen usage in a young population was related to blinking behavior and symptomatology comparable with individuals suffering from dry eye.

Root canal treatment does not induce significant alteration in dental anxiety

Root canal treatment (RCT)  is known to be a much scary procedure as per dental patients, however it does not induce significant alteration in dental anxiety, according to a recent study published in the Journal of Endodontics.

The study aimed to evaluate anxiety in patients and to monitor their heart rate (HR) and blood oxygenation (SpO2) before, during, and after a root canal treatment (RCT) during the state of alarm in 2 different periods of strict and partial confinement. Both patients with dental anxiety and that with strict confinement period showed the same results.
