NBE gets a new Vice President in Eminent Surgeon Dr Shiva Kumar Mishra; Health Ministry releases notification

New Delhi: National Board of Examinations, (NBE) is soon going to have a new vice president in Kanpur's renowned surgeon, Dr Shiva Kumar Mishra who has been recently appointed to the post.

Confirmation to this effect was recently made by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) via a notification which also appointed two new members to Governing Body of NBE, the apex examination body for PG medical admissions across the country.

An MBBS and MS surgery passout from the GVSM Medical College in Kanpur, Dr SK Mishra has to his credit more than 20000 laparoscopic operations at affordable cost/ free of cost. Dr Misra has been a pioneer surgeon in the State of UP to start variety of advanced minimally invasive surgeries like Bariatric Surgery,Obesity & Metabolic Surgery, MIPH, VAAFT and Lap. Urology. He is currently working as the CEO & Director – Shivani Hospital & IVF in Kanpur.

For his contributions to the field of surgery, he has received numerous awards including Doctor of the year 2017” award from the Indian Medical Association HQ as well as the Lifetime Achievement Award (2017) by the ASI.

He has also held important posts at various medical associations during the course of his career including President -Indian Medical Association, Kanpur, (2011-2012), President– The SAARC Surgical Care Society (2018) as well as President - The Association of Surgeons of India (2017). He is currently also serving as a members of the Central Council of Health and Family Welfare, a premier advisory body to the Health Ministry and enables consideration and recommendation of broad lines of policy with regard to matters concerning health and family welfare.

Passionate about the environment, Dr. Mishra is brand ambassador of “Doctors for Clean Air” Uttar Pradesh Chapter and is also actively campaigning against air pollution through various forums.

Speaking about his appointment, Dr Mishra told Medical Dialogues team, " National Board of Examinations plays one of the most important role in post graduate medical education in India. It would be my effort and focus on this post to ensure transparency, practicality as well as student-friendliness in the system so post graduate doctors coming out of the system are able to serve the society in a better manner ."

Besides appointing Dr Shiva Kumar Mishra, the Government has also announced the appointment of Prof (Dr) Rajoo Singh, Prof of Gastroenterology, Dean Academic, Dayanand Medical college as well as Dr Bhushan Patwardhan, Vice Chairman, University Grants Commission as members, Governing Body of NBE.
