For the first time in the country, there shall be a common entrance exam for admissions to DM/Mch/PDCC courses. National Board of Examinations, recently came out with announcement that NBE shall be conducting NEET SS ( NEET Super specialty) on 10th June 2017.

Medical Dialogues team held an exclusive interview with Prof (Dr) Bipin Batra, Executive Director, National Board of Examinations, where the professor clarified on various issues pertaining to NEET super-specialty exam ( NEET SS) . Read the details:-

Q. Sir, Who shall conduct the NEET-SS 2017?

The NEET-SS for 2017 shall be conducted by National Board of Examinations.

Q. When will the examination be held?

The examination shall be held at various cities on 10th June 2017.

Q.What will be the scope of the examination?

NEET-SS is a single window entrance examination for entry to DM/MCh/PDCC courses.  No other examination either at state level or institutional level entrance examination conducted by any University /medical colleges /institutions shall be valid as per the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 with effect from 2017 admission session.

Scope of Examination: NEET-SS 2017 shall be a single eligibility cum entrance examination namely ‘National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for admission to Super Specialty Courses’ for the academic session 2017 which shall include the following:

  • DM/MCh/PDCC courses at all Private Medical Colleges, Institutions & Universities/Deemed Universities across the country

  • DM/MCh/PDCC courses at Armed Forces Medical Services Institutions.


Q. What is the scheme of NEET-SS?

NEET-SS shall be conducted in all specialties for which the corresponding MD/MS/DNB degree is eligible for pursuing Super specialty courses in the country. A candidate can appear for the NEET-SS in one discipline of eligible entry level qualification.

The exam shall be conducted on CBT platform. The duration of the test shall be 2½ hours.  The question paper shall consist of 200 MCQs with single correct response. There will be a separate question paper for all the specialties.

Q. Are there any exceptions to NEET-SS?

NEET-SS is a single window entrance examination for all Super Specialty DM/MCh courses in the country.  No other entrance examination, either at state or institution level, shall be valid for entry to DM/MCh Courses as per the Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Act, 2016 w.e.f.2017 admission session. Qualifying NEET-SS is mandatory for gaining entry to DM/ M. Ch. Courses under various universities/Institutions in the country.

Q. What about DNB SS? Please clarify…

National Board of Examinations had conducted CET-SS for admission to DNB Super Specialty courses for 2017 admission session on 29th November, 2016.

Q. How many test centres have been engaged for NEET-SS?

The exact number of test centres shall be notified in the Information Bulletin and Website in due course.

Q. Any guidance on the curriculum of NEET SS?

The level of examination will be of PG exit level in the concerned specialty as per the latest curriculum notified /adopted by Medical Council of India in concerned MD/MS qualification. .

Q. Sir what is  the Official Website for NEET SS

The website for NEET-SS shall be operational at www.nbe.edu.in

Q. Any states which are exempted from NEET SS?

No state government /private medical college/universities shall be conducting any separate entrance exam for admission to their DM/MCh Courses for the academic session 2017-2018.

Q.Any hospitals /institutions which are not covered for admissions through NEET-SS?

The following Medical institutions are not covered for admissions to DM/MCh seats through NEET-SS for 2017 session:

  1. AIIMS, New Delhi

  2. PGIMER, Chandigarh

  3. JIPMER, Puducherry

  4. NIMHANS, Bengaluru

  5. Sree ChitraTirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology,Trivandrum


Q.What are the important dates for NEET SS

The important dates for NEET-SS shall be as follows –























1.AdvertisementJanuary 2017
2.Online Registration for NEET (Super Specialty)15th March 2017
3.Examination Dates for NEET (Super Specialty)10th  June 2017
4.Declaration of Resultsby 15th  July , 2017

Q. Sir, What about Counseling for DM/MCh/PDCC Diploma seats? 


NBE has no role in counseling/allotment of seats.  Candidates will contact/apply to the concerned State Medical Directorate/Counseling Authority(s) of the States/UT/ Private Universities/Medical Colleges/Institutes for admission based on their choice and fulfillment of eligibility criteria, applicable regulations.

Q. Is there negative marking?

There shall be 25% negative marking for incorrect answers.
