115 PG Medicos Fail Final Exams, Protest Staged Alleging Improper Evaluation
Ahmedabad: Altogether 115 postgraduate medical students, enrolled at Gujarat University, have failed the final MD/MS postgraduate medical examinations conducted in January this year.
Among these 115 students, allegedly many of the students failed by just one or two marks. However, it has been alleged that grace marks were not awarded as per the regulations, Gujarat Samachar has reported. The final exams for the PG MD MS students from affiliated medical colleges, including B J Medical College, NHL Medical College, and L G Medical College was held by the Gujarat University in January.
The situation soon led to a major controversy as the members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest recently alleging improper online rechecking of answer sheets.
Meanwhile, Gujarat University has defended the examination process and checking of answer sheets by pointing out that the overall pass percentage in the exam is 86%.
As per the latest media report by Gujarat Samachar, submitting a written complaint in this regard, ABVP pointed out that the results, which were declared on February 20, were completely unacceptable. In the complaint, the association highlighted that in subjects like Medicine, Radiology, Pathology, Paediatrics, Emergency Medicine, and Pharmacology, less than 50% of students passed in many colleges.
Further, the complaint claimed that the students who scored well in Paper 1 and practical exams, failed in Paper 2 and Paper 3. Referring to this, the complaint claimed it to be highly illogical.
The Daily has reported that after the students applied for rechecking, the University conducted digital rechecking as per the Commission's rules. However, ABVP alleged that the process was not conducted in a proper way.
Despite the rechecking, 115 students failed in the test and their results allegedly did not improve. Therefore, the students are now demanding another rechecking, and this time through physical verification.
Meanwhile, the National Medical Commission's rules do not allow reevaluation or reassessment for PG medical exams and it also does not allow awarding grace marks. Therefore, the failed students now have no option but to reappear in the exam.
