137 gold medalists honoured at 23rd NBEMS Convocation

New Delhi: A total of 137 gold medalists were felicitated at the 23rd Convocation of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on May 23, 2026.

The ceremony was presided over by Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda. The gold medals were awarded to candidates who secured top positions in NBEMS examinations across DNB, DrNB, FNB and NBEMS Diploma programmes.

The felicitation ceremony was one of the key highlights of the convocation, during which 26,396 candidates were awarded degree certificates. The gold medals recognised outstanding academic performance across specialities and super-specialities, reflecting the achievements of young doctors in postgraduate medical education.

The Dr. V G Appakutty Gold Medal for Anaesthesiology was awarded to Dr. Mano Cinthiya R M from Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre, Madurai; Dr. Shilpa Dev V from Government General Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram; Dr. Vidhya E from M.I.O.T. Hospital, Chennai; and Dr. Abinav Sarvesh Somalinga Peethambaram Suresh Kumar from Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre, Mumbai.

The Dr. K Bhaskar Rao Gold Medal for Obstetrics and Gynaecology was awarded to Dr. Pavithra G from Government Head Quarters Hospital, Cuddalore; Dr. Sneha Anil from Ernakulam Medical Centre, Kochi; Dr. Bhawna Shekhawat from Santokbha Durlabhji Memorial Hospital cum Medical Research Institute, Jaipur; and Dr. Shalini Rajput from Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, New Delhi.

The Dr. G Venkataswamy Gold Medal for Ophthalmology was conferred upon Dr. Poorani R from Arvind Eye Hospital, Puducherry; Dr. Vinny Joy from Comtrust Eye Hospital, Calicut; Dr. Hundlani Simran Veerbhan from Sankara Eye Hospital, Bengaluru; and Dr. Gorang Kumawat from Arvind Eye Hospital, Coimbatore.

The Dr. B R Santhanakrishnan Gold Medal for Paediatrics was awarded to Dr. Raja Rajeswari from Kanchi Kamakoti Childs Trust Hospital, Chennai; Dr. Mohana Prasad S from Masonic Medical Centre for Children, Coimbatore; and Dr. Ramya Bharathi S from Princess Durru Shehvar Children’s and General Hospital, Hyderabad.

The Dr. Arcot Gajaraj Gold Medal for Radio Diagnosis was awarded to Dr. Geetha S from K.G. Hospital and PG Medical Institute, Coimbatore; Dr. Ashmida from Lourdes Hospital, Ernakulam; Dr. Khushboo Kaushik from Apollo Hospital, Chennai; and Dr. Aravindhan A from S.K.S. Hospital, Salem.

The Dr. M Santhosham Gold Medal for Respiratory Medicine was conferred upon Dr. Shaikh Kauser Mohd Yaseen from Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad; Dr. Swetha T S from the National Institute of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases, New Delhi; and Dr. Amrutha P from Medical Trust Hospital, Kochi.

The Dr. Sarada Menon Gold Medal for Psychiatry was awarded to Dr. Hanihasan P from Government Mental Health Centre, Kozhikode, while the Dr. Satya Pal Aggarwal Gold Medal for Radiation Oncology was awarded to Dr. Priya Gupta from Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre, New Delhi; Dr. Kesav A from Apollo Specialty Hospital, Chennai; and Dr. Avilash Banerjee from Yashoda Super Speciality Hospital, Hyderabad.

The Dr. A S Thambiah Gold Medal for Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy was awarded to Dr. Lulua Safar from Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital, New Delhi, and Dr. Ayush Khetan from Base Hospital, New Delhi.

In General Medicine, the Dr. Sam G P Moses Gold Medal was awarded to Dr. Karan Khatri from J.L.N. Main Hospital and Research Centre, Bhilai, and Dr. Shamla P A from Valluvanad Hospital Complex Limited, Kerala. In General Surgery, the Dr. B Ramamurthi Gold Medal was awarded to Dr. Shivam Pandey from Nazareth Hospital, Shillong, and Dr. Priya N from Cosmopolitan Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram.

The Dr. S Kameswaran Gold Medal for Otorhinolaryngology was awarded to Dr. Shaheen Ayesha N from Apollo Hospital, Chennai. The Dr. C S Sadasivan Gold Medal for Cardio Vascular and Thoracic Surgery was awarded to Dr. Kalra Latika Kamal from Max Super Specialty Hospital, Saket, New Delhi, and Dr. Dipika K from Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Bengaluru.

The Dr. H S Wasir Gold Medal for Cardiology was conferred upon Dr. Hemnath C from Apollo Hospital, Chennai; Dr. Mastebhakti Bhavana from Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi; and Dr. Patel Rohan Pravinbhai from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi.

The Dr. S K Sama Gold Medal for Medical Gastroenterology was awarded to Dr. Mrinal Debbarma from Apollo Hospital, Guwahati; Dr. Nayan Sri G from Madras Medical Mission Hospital, Chennai; and Dr. Kshitij Lochab from Medanta The Medicity, Gurugram.

The Dr. S Jayam Gold Medal for Neonatology was awarded to Dr. Rachana R D from Fernandez Hospital, Hyderabad; Dr. Tissa John from Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences, Thiruvananthapuram; Dr. Nikita Kumari Panigrahi from Manipal Hospital, Bengaluru; and Dr. Deepa James from Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences, Thiruvananthapuram.

The Dr. H L Trivedi Gold Medal for Nephrology was awarded to Dr. Meena Patel from Ramkrishna Care Hospital, Raipur; Dr. Gundu Roja Sree from Yashoda Hospital, Secunderabad; and Dr. Pallavi Dubey from Manipal Hospital, Bengaluru.

The Dr. H S Bhat Gold Medal for Urology was conferred upon Dr. Keerthana Kota from Care Hospital, Hyderabad; Dr. Abhineet Gupta from Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre, Madurai; and Dr. Sinjan Jana from Ruby Hall Clinic, Pune.

The Dr. Sunil Agarwal Gold Medal for Vascular Surgery was awarded to Dr. Siddharth M from Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital, Bengaluru; Dr. Gupta Kartik Chandrakant from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi; and Dr. Rangapur Mahesh from Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad.

The Dr. C R Sundarajan Gold Medal for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery was awarded to Dr. Chahat Verma from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, and Dr. Shetye Shravani Maheshchandra from Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital and Research Centre, Pune. The Dr. N Rangabashyam Gold Medal for Surgical Gastroenterology was awarded to Dr. Chidananda H A from Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, Hyderabad, and Dr. Sonu Sebastian from Aster Medcity, Kochi.

The NBEMS President’s Gold Medal was awarded to several top-performing candidates across multiple specialities. In Pathology, the award was given to Dr. Jamsheela Ponneth from Rajagiri Hospital, Ernakulam; Dr. Nadasha Kadeeja from J.L.N. Main Hospital and Research Centre, Bhilai; and Dr. Sharon Prasad M R from Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences, Calicut.

In Emergency Medicine, the NBEMS President’s Gold Medal was awarded to Dr. Anu Priya G from Vadamalayan Hospital, Madurai, and Dr. Arun Ashokan from Bangalore Baptist Hospital, Bengaluru. In Family Medicine, the award was given to Dr. Sahal Sabri from St. Philomena’s Hospital, Bengaluru; Dr. Saleema Abdul Rahiman from Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences, Calicut; Dr. Fathimath Henna P P from Narayana Hrudayalaya Hospital, Bengaluru; Dr. Prabhreet Kaur from Mohandai Oswal Hospital, Ludhiana; and Dr. Yogesh Kumar Arora from Venkateshwar Hospital, New Delhi.

The NBEMS President’s Gold Medal was also awarded to Dr. Trisha Gupta and Dr. Mrinalini Koley for Nuclear Medicine, Dr. Vanumu Divya Sai for Palliative Medicine, and Dr. K. Jayagowri for Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion.

In Cardiac Anaesthesia, the NBEMS President’s Gold Medal was awarded to Dr. Kirti Chandran B from Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi; Dr. Alluri Soujanya from Narayana Hrudayalaya Hospital, Bengaluru; Dr. Manjusree Guha from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi; and Dr. Sridevi N from Madras Medical Mission Hospital, Chennai.

In Clinical Haematology, the award was conferred upon Dr. Vinay Anand Guntiboina from Tata Medical Center, Kolkata; Dr. Chaitanya H Balakrishnan from St. John’s Medical College Hospital, Bengaluru; and Dr. Arjin Philips Jacoby from Apollo Multispecialty Hospital Limited, Kolkata. In Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology, the award was given to Dr. S. Anu from Sree Sudheendra Medical Mission, Cochin; Dr. Jain Harsh Ramesh from Army Hospital (R and R), New Delhi; and Dr. Harsha Hari from Sree Sudheendra Medical Mission, Cochin.

In Critical Care Medicine, the NBEMS President’s Gold Medal was awarded to Dr. Srihari Rajkumar from Baby Memorial Hospital, Kozhikode; Dr. Dhanushree J from Fortis Hospital, Bengaluru; Dr. Emy Ambooken from Kovai Medical Centre, Coimbatore; and Dr. Sreeja Sadan from Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences, Thiruvananthapuram.

In Endocrinology, the award was given to Dr. Nitesh Kumar from Safdarjung Hospital and Vardhman Mahavir Medical College, New Delhi, and Dr. Thakkar Simran Jatin from Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi.

In Medical Oncology, the NBEMS President’s Gold Medal was awarded to Dr. Akanksha Chhabra from Dharamshila Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, New Delhi; Dr. Shelke Shreyas Vishwambhar from P.D. Hinduja National Hospital and Medical Research Centre, Mumbai; and Dr. Soumya B M from Manipal Hospital, Bengaluru.

In Neuro Anaesthesia, the award was given to Dr. Rajishth Mittal from GIPMER, New Delhi; Dr. Vakada Sravanthi from Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad; and Dr. Eesha Banerjee from Institute of Neurosciences, Kolkata. In Neurology, the award was conferred upon Dr. Sravanthi U from Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad; Dr. Anushree Pal from Institute of Neurosciences, Kolkata; and Dr. Parikh Harvy Dipesh from Zydus Hospital, Ahmedabad.

In Paediatric Critical Care, the NBEMS President’s Gold Medal was awarded to Dr. Ananya Kavilapurapu from St. John’s Medical College Hospital, Bengaluru; Dr. Priyatharshini P from Kanchi Kamakoti Childs Trust Hospital, Chennai; Dr. Parvathy S Menon from Apollo Hospital, Chennai; and Dr. Vikram Rajkumar R from Apollo Hospital, Chennai. In Paediatric Cardiology, the award was given to Dr. Shantanu Jain from Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences, Kolkata, and Dr. Varun G from Narayana Hrudayalaya Hospital, Bengaluru.

In Surgical Oncology, the NBEMS President’s Gold Medal was awarded to Dr. Shubham Pandey from Max Super Specialty Hospital, Saket, New Delhi; Dr. Akella V Phanendra Somayajulu from Indo-American Cancer Institute and Research Centre, Hyderabad; and Dr. Govind P Somani from MVR Cancer Centre and Research Institute, Kerala.

The NBEMS President’s Gold Medal was also awarded to Dr. Deepika D, Dr. Paromita Roy and Dr. Priyanka Parihar for Gynaecological Oncology; Dr. Anurag Mehndiratta and Dr. Diwakar C for Interventional Radiology; Dr. Roopadarshini B for Medical Genetics; Dr. Shantam Sodhi and Dr. Sreekarthik K P for Neuro Surgery; and Dr. Paladugula Naveena, Dr. Asna Thasneem S, Dr. Simran Mittal and Dr. Ananaya Gupta for Anesthesiology.

In Obstetrics and Gynaecology under the post-diploma category, the NBEMS President’s Gold Medal was awarded to Dr. Priyanshi, Dr. Ankita Chauhan, Dr. Madam Bhargavi and Dr. Priyadharshini M. In Ophthalmology, the award was given to Dr. Irene Rose Joy, Dr. Arathy M M, Dr. Lad Manasi Prakash and Dr. Rohan Bhatnagar. In ENT, the award was conferred upon Dr. Dharani Thiruvengadam, Dr. Meena Nandini R and Dr. Karthikeyan.

In Paediatrics, the NBEMS President’s Gold Medal was awarded to Dr. Viraj Jayesh Shah and Dr. Sumaiyabarveen M M. In Radio Diagnosis, the award was given to Dr. Hadiya Mehulbhai Shamjibhai, Dr. Minshina Parveen P and Dr. Narwade Sukanya Jagannath. In Tuberculosis and Chest Disease, the award was given to Dr. Ashwin Manikandan, Dr. Debadri Ray and Dr. Bhise Kirti Rajabhau.
