Dr AVS Suresh honoured with Presidential Medal of Merit at NBEMS convocation

Dr. A.V.S. Suresh
New Delhi: Dr. A.V.S. Suresh, a renowned oncologist and physician-scientist, has been honoured with the prestigious Presidential Medal of Merit during the 23rd convocation ceremony of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). The ceremony was held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, on May 23, 2026.
The award was presented by Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda in recognition of his outstanding contributions to cancer care, medical research, artificial intelligence in healthcare and medical education.
An eminent medical oncologist associated with Citizens Hospital, Hyderabad, Dr. Suresh has authored 291 scientific publications and six textbook chapters, earning recognition for his contributions to oncology, innovation and academic excellence.
Dr. Suresh also serves as Senior Consultant in Medical Oncology and Hematology at the American Oncology Institute and Co-Founder and Chief Physician Scientist at CognitiveCare, received the honour at a national event attended by leading healthcare professionals and dignitaries.
With over two decades of experience in oncology and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, Dr. Suresh has established himself as one of India's leading physician-scientists. He has been associated with over 800 stem cell transplants and has played a significant role in advancing precision oncology and personalised cancer care.

A prolific researcher and innovator, Dr. Suresh holds more than 20 patents in artificial intelligence-enabled healthcare and medical technologies. He has authored over 200 peer-reviewed scientific publications and contributed to several academic and educational initiatives aimed at improving healthcare delivery and medical training.
An early adopter of artificial intelligence in medicine since 2015, Dr. Suresh has been at the forefront of integrating AI into clinical practice and healthcare education. He was instrumental in designing and developing an online training programme on Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare for medical professionals, an initiative supported by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS).
Apart from his clinical practice and research, Dr. Suresh has led numerous healthcare outreach programmes focused on cancer awareness, screening, rural health services, digital health and preventive care. Through his clinical, academic and non-governmental initiatives, he and his teams have positively impacted more than three million lives.
Dr. Suresh has received several national and international accolades, including the GS Bhattacharya Award and recognition from the American Association for Cancer Research. He has also been recognised among the "Top 100 Physicians of the World" for his contributions to oncology, innovation and medical education.
The Presidential Medal of Merit adds another distinguished milestone to Dr. Suresh's career, acknowledging his sustained efforts in advancing cancer care, healthcare innovation and the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence in medicine.
