4th year Indian Medical Student dies in Kharkiv by Russian bombardment
The student was a 20-year-old medical student from Karnataka who studied at the fourth year in Kharkiv National Medical University,the student has been identified as Naveen Shekharappa Gyanagoudar .
Karnataka: Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted and confirmed the death of one Indian student in Kharkiv by the shelling of Russia. The student was a 20-year-old medical student from Karnataka who studied at the fourth year in Kharkiv National Medical University,the student has been identified as Naveen Shekharappa Gyanagoudar reported the Indian Express.
"With profound sorrow we confirm that an Indian student lost his life in shelling in Kharkiv this morning. The Ministry is in touch with his family. We convey our deepest condolences to the family," Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted.
"Foreign Secretary is calling in Ambassadors of Russia and Ukraine to reiterate our demand for urgent safe passage for Indian nationals who are still in Kharkiv and cities in other conflict zones. Similar action is also being undertaken by our Ambassadors in Russia and Ukraine," he said.
"Naveen was shot dead around 10.30 am Ukrainian time today. He was standing in the queue before a grocery shop when the Russian army fired at people. We have no information about his body. None of us was able to visit the hospital, probably where it is kept now," Naveen's hostel mate Sridharan Gopalakrishnan told Indian Express. He also told that they have now taken shelter at a hostel bunker and that there is no news about an evacuation plan for them.Only rumors, but there was no communication from Indian authorities,"
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai expressed his condolences over Gyanagouda's death. Bommai told reporters he spoke to the student's parents and that efforts are being made to bring his body to India.
Seven flights will land in Delhi tomorrow carrying stranded Indians from Ukraine under Operation Ganga. A total of nine flights have already brought back stranded Indian nationals from Ukraine. The union government has deployed around 20 flights from Air India, Air India Express, Indigo, and Spice Jet. Apart from these airlines, the Airforce has also been asked to evacuate Indians from the neighbouring countries of Ukraine.
At a high-level meeting on Monday evening over the Ukraine crisis, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the entire government machinery is working round the clock to ensure that all Indians there are safe and secure, informed Bagchi.
