Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has 6,082 MD, MS, Diploma, DM, and MCh seats for the academic year 2026-2027, according to the latest seat matrix released by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

The seat distribution shows that M.D. General Medicine has the highest number of seats, with 575 seats, followed by M.S. General Surgery with 558 seats and M.D. Anaesthesiology with 554 seats. 

As per the list, the approved seats are spread across government, private, and deemed medical institutions in the national capital.

Medical Dialogues had reported that the NMC on September 29 released a seat matrix showing a total of 63,177 MD, MS, Diploma, DM, and MCh medical seats for the academic year 2026-27. However, the NMC has clarified that the latest seat matrix does not include the seats in respect of applications received for an increase in intake of existing PG courses or for the commencement of new PG courses for the Academic Year 2026–27.

According to the latest seat matrix, M.D. Anatomy has 183 seats; M.D. Biochemistry has 127 seats; M.D. Bio-Physics has 1 seat; M.D. Community Medicine/Social & Preventive Medicine has 235 seats; M.D. Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy/Dermatology has 154 seats; M.D. Emergency Medicine has 53 seats, and M.D. Forensic Medicine and Toxicology/Forensic Medicine has 61 seats.

The other MD courses include M.D. Geriatrics with 3 seats, M.D. Hospital Administration with 4 seats, M.D. Immuno Haematology and Blood Transfusion with 25 seats, M.D. Laboratory Medicine with 3 seats, M.D. Microbiology with 177 seats, M.D. Nuclear Medicine with 8 seats, M.D. Paediatrics with 378 seats, M.D. Pathology with 368 seats, M.D. Pharmacology with 168 seats, M.D. Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with 4 seats, M.D. Physiology with 161 seats, and M.D. Psychiatry with 157 seats.

Further, M.D. Radiation Oncology/Radiotherapy has 61 seats, M.D. Radio-Diagnosis/Radiology has 296 seats, and M.D. Respiratory Medicine/Tuberculosis & Respiratory Diseases has 141 seats, and M.D. Sports Medicine has 4 seats.

Among the MS courses, M.S. Obstetrics and Gynaecology has 394 seats, M.S. Orthopaedics has 346 seats, M.S. Ophthalmology has 241 seats, M.S. Otorhinolaryngology/ENT has 185 seats, and M.S. Traumatology and Surgery has 5 seats.

For DM super-specialty courses, D.M. Cardiology has 59 seats and D.M. Neurology has 40 seats, while D.M. Nephrology has 22 seats and D.M. Medical Gastroenterology has 16 seats. Other DM courses include D.M. Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology with 10 seats, D.M. Critical Care Medicine with 10 seats, D.M. Cardiac Anaesthesia with 8 seats, D.M. Clinical Haematology with 8 seats, D.M. Endocrinology with 8 seats, D.M. Pulmonary Medicine with 7 seats, D.M. Medical Genetics with 5 seats, D.M. Infectious Disease with 4 seats, D.M. Neonatology with 4 seats, D.M. Paediatric Gastroenterology with 4 seats, D.M. Geriatric Mental Health with 3 seats, D.M. Hepatology with 3 seats, D.M. Medical Oncology with 2 seats, D.M. Neuro-Anaesthesia with 2 seats, D.M. Onco-Pathology with 2 seats and D.M. Paediatric and Neonatal Anaesthesia with 2 seats.

In the MCh category, M.Ch. Neurosurgery has the highest number of seats at 45, followed by M.Ch. Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery and M.Ch. Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery with 28 seats each. The state has M.Ch. Urology with 26 seats, M.Ch. Surgical Oncology with 18 seats, M.Ch. Surgical Gastroenterology with 15 seats, M.Ch. Paediatric Surgery with 11 seats, M.Ch. Endocrine Surgery with 6 seats, M.Ch. Head and Neck Surgery with 4 seats and M.Ch. Paediatric Orthopaedics with 3 seats.

Meanwhile, Diploma in Paediatrics (D.C.H.) has 11 seats, Diploma in Ophthalmology (D.O.) has 10 seats, Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (D.G.O.) has 7 seats, Diploma in Orthopaedics (D.Orth.) has 8 seats, Diploma in Otorhinolaryngology (D.L.O.) has 2 seats, Diploma in Community Medicine/Public Health has 2 seats, and Diploma in Public Health (D.P.H.) has 2 seats, Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy (D.D.V.L.) has 4 seats and Diploma in Forensic Medicine (D.F.M.), Diploma in Radiodiagnosis (D.M.R.D.), Diploma in Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases (D.T.C.D.) have 1 seat each and Diploma in Anaesthesiology (D.A.) has no seats in the given matrix.
