Dehradun: Taking action against the instances of ragging at Srinagar Medical College in Uttarakhand, the principal of the institute has recently suspended seven students of 2019-2020 MBBS batch.

These medicos had allegedly ragged around 40 junior students by forcing them to strip on the hostel terrace on November 11. The college authorities took the action against these medicos after the allegations by the junior students were found to be true by the college committee.

Only after three months, these medicos will be allowed to join academic sessions. However, before that the college committee will conduct their behavioural assessment.

As per the latest media report by the Times of India, the concerned senior students of 2019-2020 MBBS batch had kept their faces covered while ragging their juniors on November 11. The junior medicos had to strip on the terrace of the hostel in biting cold.

Following this, one of the student's parents approached the college administration and the rest of the juniors also approached the college authorities to describe the incident of ragging. Subsequently, the committee of the college investigated the matter.

Speaking about this, the Principal of Srinagar Medical College, Dr. CMC Rawat told the daily, "The matter was probed at various levels."

While probing the complaints, the committee interrogated 30-40 junior students. Their written statements had also been collected and their versions were cross-checked as well. The daily adds that these seven students had disciplinary issues in the past as well. The committee also collected some of their conversations with their juniors.

"After connecting all the dots, the committee came out with its findings and action was taken," Rawat added.

These suspended students will be able to join the academic activities after three months. However, Principal Rawat clarified that "a behavioural assessment will be conducted by the committee before they are allowed to resume their studies in the medical college."

"This is a clear message for all students. Such activities cannot be tolerated. The new batch has just joined and anyone found harassing a junior won't be spared," he further added.

Medical Dialogues had recently reported about the instances of ragging at another medical college in Uttarakhand. Earlier, the alleged incident of ragging at Haldwani Medical college came to light after a suspected ragging video, showing students with tonsured heads walking in queue with hands behind their backs shocked the social media.
