Alleging Doctoring of NEET OMR Sheet, Tamil Nadu aspirant approaches CM

The student is currently pursuing her second year of BSc Mathematics in an Alwarkurichi-based government aided college.

She had filed a case in the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court in 2020 for the same, adds IANS.

In the petition, the petitioner referred to the scanned copy of the OMR sheet released by NTA and said: "My OMR sheet has been doctored, either to pass someone or to fail me as I had brought to light the shortcomings in NEET during 2020".

It may be noted that the National Testing Agency (NTA) which conducts the NEET exam had released the scanned copy of the OMR sheets of the candidates on October 15.

In the complaint, she said that while she was writing the NEET on September 12, an observer had come to the examination hall at 4.55 p.m. just before the end of the exam and collected her OMR sheet and took its photocopies.

Maduppathi, in her complaint, said that the observer had promised to hand over her answer sheet to the invigilator and before that, she had put her thumb impression in the answer sheet and added that in the uploaded answer sheet by the NTA, her thumb impression was missing.

The girl student also complained that she had left 15 questions unanswered in the OMR sheet but in the NTA released sheet, it was seen that all those questions were answered.

"Just before the end of the examination at 4:55 pm, an observer entered the exam hall, collected my OMR sheet and took the photocopies of the same. He told me that he will pass my OMR sheet to the invigilator. Before handing over the sheet to him, I put my thumb impression on it. However, the thumb impression is missing in the scanned OMR sheet released by NTA.The completion time of the exam (5 pm) has been written by someone into the signature box even though I already mentioned the timing in it. Most importantly, the answers that I marked in the original OMR sheet mismatches with the scanned copy of the OMR sheet. The 15 questions I left unanswered have been answered in the scanned copy," the NEET aspirant was quoted saying in her complaint by the New Indian Express.

Tirunelveli junction police is investigating the case and when contacted the SHO said that the probe is on.

The police further informed the daily that the petitioner has been advised to challenge the OMR sheet with the NTA's portal itself.

Meanwhile, when contacted, the concerned observer informed NIE that he entered the exam hall and followed the NTA instructions only and also denied the allegations of tampering.

"The thumb impression may not be visible in the scanned copy uploaded in the NTA's portal. But it can be seen if she will check the original OMR sheet," he added.
