Probe finds Dr BR Ambedkar University student leader, Delhi doctor involved in manipulation of BAMS Answer sheets, 2 Arrested

Agra: Police probe into allegations of manipulations and changes in the answer sheets of BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) exam conducted by the Dr BR Ambedkar University of Agra has revealed the involvement of a Delhi-based doctor and a student leader of the University.

Already the police have arrested the Dr Atul Yadav, who is originally from Shikohabad (Firozabad) and an auto driver Devendra Kumar, who allegedly took the answer sheets from the exam hall to Moti Katra locality of Agra, instead of the Agra College, the assigned place. Already two cases have been registered in this regard.

Dainik Bhaskar adds that the student leader of the University was the kingpin of the gang as he used to work on contract basis for increasing the number of the medical students. Currently, the student leader is on the run and the police are searching for him and his associates.

Taking the matter seriously, already Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the UP STF for investigating the issue. Police probe has revealed that among 100 answer sheets from a particular college, changes and manipulations were found in at least 14 copies.

The probe further revealed that the gang used to charge around Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000 from the students for manipulating the copies. The fees were collected by the Delh-based doctor.

As per the latest media report by Hindustan Times, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Vinay Kumar Pathak got to know about the matter on August 27 and after that, the police were informed about the reports that the answer sheets were being carried to a different location, instead of the assigned place.

Following this, police nabbed the auto driver with the copies of BAMS from St. John's College on the way. Probe revealed that the driver did not directly go to the nodal center or the Chhalesar campus but went to a location in the middle of Moti Katra, adds Dainik Bhaskar. During the probe, it was found out that two bundles of copies were missing.

Meanwhile, the examination controller of the University, Om Prakash had lodged a case at Hariparwat police station and therefore, the auto driver was detained. It was from the mobile of the auto driver Devendra that the name of Dr Yadav was revealed. The concerned doctor used to pass the BAMS students and they were charged Rs 50,000 for one subject and Rs 3 lakh for all subjects.

Consequently, on Sunday, Police detained Dr. Atul Yadav and currently, the probe is trying to unveil the links between the detained doctor and the student leader who were allegedly leading the whole racket. The police are suspecting that the doctor was working as an agent and the student leader as the kingpin of the gang.

Speaking about the matter, the superintendent of police (SP), Agra, Vikas Kumar informed the media on Tuesday that they had received information from an insider and following that a joint team of Agra police and Dr BR Ambedkar University started checking the answer sheets from a centre on a random basis. 

He told HT, "About 100 answer sheets of students from a particular college appearing at a centre were checked and manipulations and changes were found to have been made in at least 14 copies which were seized in due process. On the basis of this, another case has been registered on Tuesday at Hariparvat police station of Agra."

"The police will investigate the entire process of the movement of answer sheets and all those found to be involved in manipulations and changes in answer sheets will be booked and will face action," added SP Kumar.

While commenting on this, senior superintendent of police (SSP), Agra, Prabhakar Chaudhary told HT on Monday, "Two, including a Delhi-based doctor, Dr Atul Yadav and an auto driver, Devendra Kumar, have been arrested after a case was registered. More names are surfacing and further details are to be unearthed about those involved."
