Vijayawada: Bringing good news to the Postgraduate medical aspirants in Andhra Pradesh, the Central Government has given its nod for 630 PG medical seats in various medical colleges across the State.

Issuing confirmation, the Union Government has sent a copy of the order to the State Government and mentioned about adding these 630 seats to 11 medical colleges of the State, adds The Hans India.

Although the State Government had urged the Centre for increasing altogether 688 PG medical seats, the Union Government has given its nod for 630 seats.

These additional seats have been approved for different branches of medicine including microbiology, pathology, forensic science, orthopaedics, anaesthesia, paediatrics, ENT, psychiatry, gastroenterology, endocrinology, neurology, anatomy, radio diagnosis, pulmonary medicine, pharmacology, forensic medicine, general medicine, orthopaedics, biochemistry, community medicine, radiology, radiotherapy, general surgery, plastic surgery, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, emergency medicine and other courses.

As per the latest media report by The Hans India, these newly added seats, 41 seats have been increased in Kurnool Medical College, 65 seats in Government Medical College, Anantapur, 69 seats in Government Medical College, Kadapa and another 75 medical colleges have been added to SV Medical College Tirupati.

In case of Government Medical College Ongole, 79 additional seats have been approved. ACSR Government Medical College has got five seats, Guntur Medical College has received permission for 34 medical seats, 71 seats have been added in Siddhartha Medical College, Vijayawada and 46 seats in Ranjarayana Medical College, Kakinada. 

Another 17 seats have been added to Government Medical College Srikakulam and 128 additional seats have been increased in Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam.

While commenting on this, YSRCP medical wing combined Krishna district president Dr Mahabub told the daily that the permission from the Central Government has come because of the increased infrastructural facilities in the government hospitals under the Nadu-Nedu Programme.

Expressing his happiness over the increase of PG medical seats, he further stated that the State Government is prioritizing the health and education and it has filled the vacant posts of teaching and non teaching staff.

He further mentioned that the infrastructural facilities were developed in medical colleges as per the guidelines of the Union Government and they will be beneficial for the students.

As per the data revealed by MoS Health Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar to the parliament last year, there were a total number of 2371 PG medical seats in Andhra Pradesh including 1065 seats belonging to Government Medical Colleges and 1306 seats belonging to private medical colleges.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the State had expressed its interest for adding around 600 to 700 PG seats across Andhra Pradesh. In this regard, the Andhra Medical College had applied to the State for additional 131 PG medical seats in 27 specialties.
