India's First Sports Dentistry Fellowship Launched by GDCH Nagpur
Nagpur- Government Dental College and Hospital (GDCH) has launched India’s first fellowship in sports dentistry after approval from Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik, to provide specialized training to dentists in managing sports-related dental injuries, making custom mouth guards, and collaborating with sports medicine and sports organization experts.
On this occasion, the Sports Dentistry Fellowship Launch and Symposium was held recently, which underlined the crucial need for sports dentistry in India. In this regard, Dr Ritesh Kalaskar, Professor and Head, Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry, In-charge, Sports Dentistry at GDC Nagpur, highlighted the growing scope of sports dentistry in creating employment opportunities in various sports and ensuring timely oral care interventions to enhance the performance of athletes.
He said “This groundbreaking fellowship shall create pathways for innovations in sports dentistry, cultivating interdisciplinary partnerships and safeguarding the well-being of athletes across diverse sports disciplines”, quoted TOI.
Further, GDCH Dean Dr Abhay Datarkar also said "This pioneering fellowship is expected to pave the way for advancements in sports dentistry, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations and ensuring the well-being of athletes across various sports disciplines”.
