Doctors working in medical education department can avail inservice reservation benefits: MP HC

Jabalpur: Providing relief to the In-service doctors in the State, the Madhya Pradesh High Court recently clarified that doctors who are serving the Medical Education Department for three years shall be allowed to avail the benefits of In-service reservation while appearing in the NEET-PG medical entrance examination.

Such a ruling came from the High Court bench as it was considering a plea filed by six doctors belonging to the Medical Education Department.

Filing the petition, these doctors had contended that even though the in-service reservation benefits are available to the doctors posted with the health department, those who work for the medical education department cannot avail it.

The doctors in their plea described such a policy as discriminatory and also claimed that different treatments for the health and medical education department doctors contradicts the fundamental right of equality ensured under the Indian Constitution. Therefore, approaching the HC bench they sought relief.

As per the latest media report by the Times of India, the doctors in their plea claimed that as per the rules, the in-service candidates can avail 30% seats in admission to the PG medical courses and the such doctors get 10 additional marks for each year of service. However, the rules changed in the meantime and the benefits of in-service reservation was made limited to the health department doctors only.

Referring to this discrimination, the doctors in their plea claimed that the rules of exam and admission can't be changed after the exam. While the PG medical counselling commenced on September 21, they lost their rights for availing the in-service reservation, claimed the petitioner doctors.

Taking note of the arguments, the HC bench ruled in favour of the petitioner doctors and clarified that all the doctors who are serving the medical education department for three years will be eligible for availing the in-service reservation benefits for appearing in the PG medical entrance examination.
