Faridkot: Medical aspirants in Punjab are worried over the huge difference of Rs 11 lakh in the MBBS tuition fees announced by the State Government and the full course fees announced by the private medical colleges.

While the uniform fee structure released by the Department of Medical Education and Research (DMER) and Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) mentions Rs 52.60 lakh tuition fees in total, the Adesh Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (AIMSR) has announced the total tuition fees of Rs 63.93 lakh along with Rs 3 lakh development fees for each seats.

In fact, the AIMSR authorities have further stated that the college has challenged the fee structure announced by the State Government before the High Court and therefore the fee structure depends on the final decision of the High Court.

Back on August 22, 2022, the DMER had released the notification announcing a uniform fee structure for the MBBS programme in all the private medical colleges including AIMSR. As per the DMER notice, the tuition fee for the MBBS first-year course is Rs 9.92 lakh with 10 percent annual hike.

As per the latest media report by The Tribune, the fee structure released by AIMSR does not match with the DMER notice since the institute has decided that the fees for the first year would be Rs 11.90 lakh and it would increased by 10% annually. Therefore, as per the AIMSR, the total MBBS course fee for the management quota seats is Rs 63,93,930.

Besides, the college has also demanded another Rs 3 lakh as development charges from every student. On the other hand, as per the instruction of the State, the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) would levy a tuition fee of Rs. 9.92 lakh for each admission to the AIMSR.

Therefore, students are confused and concerned over the different fee structures announced by the State and the medical college. Already the institute has challenged the fee structure released by the State and approached the High Court in this regard.

The daily adds that ten medical colleges in Punjab, including AIMSR have started offering counselling for MBBS course through BFUHS and already the first list of selected candidates for this academic session has been released.
