New Delhi: The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has invited applications for DHR sponsored training course on Pediatric Medical Genetics.

The candidates can register online till 25th May 2022, in the prescribed format at www.nirrh.res.in. By 31st May 2022, selected candidates will receive an email.

The training course is free of charge. However, the selected candidates will have to confirm their participation by 6th June 2022 by submitting a DD for Rs. 2000/- drawn in favour of "The Director, NIRRCH, Mumbai."The amount paid will refund after successful completion of the course.

Genetic Research Centre, ICMR-NIRRCH, are organising the DHR workshop on "Pediatric Medical Genetics". The main purpose of the course is to impart conceptual and technical know-how on recent and upcoming developments in clinical and laboratory genetics.

This 4-week course will cover both the basic principles as well as advances through a series of lectures, tutorials, and interactive. The following courses will be covered -

1. Cytogenetics,

2. Molecular genetics

3. Genomics

The aspects of clinical genetics will also include case studies of different conditions and genetic counselling.

To empower the participants to write research projects in future, lectures on research methodologies have been incorporated into the course schedule. Participants will be given demonstrations of techniques important for diagnosing genetic disorders in the pediatric population. The course also comprises a module on bioinformatics with hands-on training. Beyond this, there will be lectures by eminent medical geneticists and clinicians from relevant fields across the country.

The workshop is being planned in offline mode. However, in unavoidable circumstances, the workshop may be conducted online.

Eligibility criteria

1. Indian citizens with MBBS/MD/MS/DM or MCH holding regular positions can apply.

2. Faculties from medical colleges/ hospitals /institutes/ Model Rural Health Research Units (MRHRUs)/Multi-Disciplinary Research Units (MRUs) can apply.

3. Candidates from North-East and semi-urban/rural regions of India can apply.

Candidates in service should forward their applications through proper channels. Such applications will be considered complete only if a "No Objection Certificate" from the head of the institution is uploaded.

On request, the outstation candidates will be provided accommodation with minimal cost, but they will have to arrange for travel and food.

ICMR-National Institute for Research in Reproductive and Child Health (ICMR-NIRRCH), located in Parel, Mumbai, is a premier Institute that conducts clinical, basic, operational and socio-behavioural research on different aspects of reproductive health. The institute's major thrust areas of research are Maternal and Child Health, Women's Health, Fertility Regulation, Infertility, Genetic Disorders, HTA, RTIs, STIs, and HIV.
