Puducherry: Through a recent notice, the Jawaharlal Institute of Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) has clarified about this year's MBBS admissions and counselling process in the institute.

This is for information to all the aspiring MBBS students that JIPMER MBBS Exam and Counselling to be held by Union Government Body from the year 2020.

In its notice, the JIPMER authorities mentioned that there are several rumors circulating in relation to admission counseling for MBBS seats at JIPMER, Puducherry. Hence, JIPMER wished to clarify the situation regarding MBBS admissions and counseling as follows.

As has already been notified, from the current year, JIPMER's own MBBS entrance test has been discontinued and all admissions to the MBBS course at JIPMER will be made through the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). Hence, counseling for the candidates who have qualified NEET 2020 will be conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Delhi.

In this counseling by the MCC, allotment of MBBS seats at both the Puducherry and Karaikal campuses of JIPMER will be done as per JIPMER's existing policies for reservation and domicile regulations, as already indicated in the JIPMER prospectus. The details are available in JIPMER official website www.jipmeredu.in

In addition, considering the pandemic situation due to Covid-19 and to ensure the safety of all the stakeholders and to abide by the restrictions of the Central as well as the Union Territory Government as per the Epidemic Act, JIPMER will not be conducting its annual convocation this year. All the degree certificates will be sent to the registered addresses of students. All the eligible students have to register for the same in the format available on the JIPMER website. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported about the same.

There are a total of 200 MBBS seats in JIPMER, with 150 in the Puducherry campus and 50 in the Karaikal campus.
