Bengaluru: Soon after the Karnataka High Court quashed the Government order that had reduced the In-service reservation for PG medical admission, now the State Directorate of Medical Education (DME) has increased the reservation for In-service doctors from 15% to 20% for the academic year 2022-2023.

Therefore, instead of 206 PG medical seats, now 279 seats are reserved for the In-service doctors seeking admission to PG medical courses in Karnataka.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the In-service PG medical aspirants had approached the HC seeking an increase in the number of reserved seats. While considering the matter, the HC bench had passed an interim order and stayed the NEET PG Counselling process in Karnataka. As a result, Karnataka Examinations Authority had stopped the counselling process.

While considering the matter, the Karnataka High Court had provided relief to the In-service Postgraduate medical aspirants and quashed the State Government notification dated October 06, 2022, which had reduced the In-service quota PG medical seats from 30 per cent to 15 per cent.

Along with the Government notification, the HC Division bench had also quashed the seat matrix issued by the Director of Medical Education on 09.10.2022.

However, the HC has also said that the "State Government shall be at liberty to prescribe the quota for in-service candidates afresh while taking into account relevant criteria and fill up the seats."

Further, the HC in its judgement also mentioned what is a relevant criteria for the quota. As per the court order, the relevant criteria is the number of seats as well as the number of in-service candidates who have qualified to participate in the counselling.

As per the latest media report by The Hindu, now the Directorate of Medical Education has revised the In-service reservation for PG medical admission and increased it from 15 to 20%.

Accordingly, last Sunday, KEA released the revised In-service and non-service seat matrix for PG medical courses and enabled the entry portal for all eligible candidates. Stating that the entry portal has been open from today 5 pm and will close on October 31, the notification was quoted mentioning by Indian Express, "All candidates holding the verification slip are eligible for this option entry. Those who have already entered options can re-order, add, delete the options if required."

Further KEA has announced a list of 1,793 candidates with insufficient documents for supporting their reservation for UGCET-2022. In case of most of these candidates, caste, income and Revenue Document (RD) numbers were mismatched.

These candidates have been called by KEA on November 2, along with the required documents to support their claim/reservation in UGCET application. In case of enquiry, they can contact: ugcet2022documents@gmail.com.
