KGMU gets NMC nod for 10 MD Respiratory Medicine Seats
Lucknow: In a major boost to the postgraduate medical education in Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow based King George's Medical University (KGMU) has recently earned the National Medical Commission (NMC) nod for 10 postgraduate (MD) seats in the Respiratory Medicine Department for the academic years 2022-2023.
The nod from the Apex medical education regulatory body NMC came after the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the Commission assessed the number of teachers, their experience, publications and other infrastructure.
Established back in 1905, KGMU has around 1250 undergraduate students (including 280 dental students) and 450 postgraduate students. The Respiratory Medicine department of this college has its genesis back 1946. Initially, the department started as a tuberculosis clinic with "Kasturba TB Hospital" which had a 40 bedded hospital attached to it. The MD degree course in tuberculosis was started in 1951 and subsequently diploma in tuberculosis & chest diseases was started in 1954.
