Madras HC Directs NBE to Ensure Ample Seats in TN for future NEET PG exam

However, Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy has given direction to the authorities including National Board of Examinations (NBE) to address the issue for future examinations so that the candidates get to write their exams from their own States only. For this, NBE has been given directions to ensure more than necessary seats for the examination.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that attempting to address the problems of the Tamil Nadu NEET-PG candidates, who were being forced to choose the examination centers outside the State, a Villupuram-based advocate had filed a Public Interest Litigation at the Madras High Court requesting to increase the number of NEET-PG examination centers in the State.

The advocate Veerapillai Ramesh had contended before the Madras HC that among the 255 total NEET-PG centers around the country, only 28 were situated in the State. This had led to a situation where the natives of Tamil Nadu were being forced to choose centers outside the State.

Following this, the HC asked the Union Government and NBE to file their reply within 08.03.2021. In pursuance, NBE Director had assured that "NBE will try its best to accommodate the candidates having their correspondence address in the State of Tamil Nadu & UT of Puducherry and those who have chosen the 'OTHERS' option within the State/UT of their correspondence address if the required number of nodes are available."

As per the latest media report by DT Next, the HC Bench while reviewing the matter has recently mentioned, "it is too late for the court to take cognizance of the issue and inject confusion in the already troubled system, wherein exams are scheduled on April 18."
