MBBS Aspirants missing from State Merit List, candidates told to submit representation

Puducherry: While the admission process for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) has commenced in Puducherry, several MBBS aspirants in the UT found their names missing from the State merit list. 

After multiple complaints in this regard from the MBBS aspirants, now the concerned authorities in the UT have asked the candidates who have been affected in this process to submit a representation before the Health Director-cum-Nodal Officer of Medical Education within October 8, 2022.

Issuing a Press Note addressing the issue, the Health Director of Puducherry, G. Sriramulu has directed the affected students whose names went missing in the merit list for submitting a representation either in writing or via email to dms.pon@nic.in, dmspdy.osd@gmail.com, along with supporting documents confirming their residency in the Union Territory of Puducherry by 5 p.m. on October, 8, 2022.

As per the latest media report by The Hindu, the candidates started complaining about their names going missing shortly after the State merit list was released by the Health Directorate on September 30.

Similar kind of mishap had happened in January, 2022 as well. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the Puducherry domicile NEET UG 2021 aspirants had complained before the UT Health Department stating that they could not enroll for JIPMER MBBS registration since the Institute only allowed 5, 025 students who had entered the name of 'Applicant State' as Puducherry.

After verifying, the Government had found out that the students who were not included in the list had chosen Tami Nadu or Andhra Pradesh while filling out the field 'State/UT from where 12th/Equivalent Passed/Appearing' on the NEET application.

Meanwhile, the CENTAC Student Parents' Welfare Association Puducherry has demanded before the UT administration for taking necessary steps for putting a stop to the anomalies related to the domicile status of candidates getting admitted to MBBS course at the cost of local students of the UT.

Referring to this, the President of the Association, M. Narayanasamy issued a statement in this regard and claimed that the State merit list included several candidates hailing from other States. If this list gets followed, the candidates belonging to other States would get MBBS admission at the UT while depriving the local students from puducherry.

Raising this problem, the association has requested the Lt. Governor and the Medical Counselling Committee for ensuring that MBBS admission in Puducherry government reservation is conducted only on the basis of CENTAC rank list in the interest of Puducherry students.
