The admission to MBBS course in JIPMER Puducherry and JIPMER Karaikal Campuses for the Academic session 2020 will be based on National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2020 score and the counseling process will be done only through the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC), Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India and NOT by JIPMER, Puducherry. JIPMER, Puducherry will not conduct any separate JIPMER MBBS Entrance examination or counseling process for admission to the MBBS course in JIPMER Puducherry and Karaikal Campuses for the year 2020 session.

Candidates are instructed to visit the website https://www.mcc.nic.in/  for more information in this regard.

There are a total of 200 MBBS seats in JIPMER, with 150 in the Puducherry campus and 50 in the Karaikal campus.

Till now, 50 seats have been reserved for students from Puducherry. This includes 37 seats in JIPMER, Puducherry and 13 in JIPMER, Karaikal. However, there is no clarity on the continuance of the existing pattern of reservation of seats for Puducherry students.

Chief Minister V Narayanasamy on Tuesday categorically stated that the students of Puducherry will get their MBBS quota in Jipmer this year too as in the past. Some miscreants are spreading rumors to confuse the people that the Puducherry quota will not be there this year as the National Medical Commission will be conducting the counseling and admission.

He said as per the Jipmer Act, 20 seats have to be given as local quota from 75 seats and as such Puducherry will get 40 seats in Jipmer Puducherry and 15 seats in Karaikal campus.

Puducherry and Karaikal will get 55 seats this year also, he said, adding that he had talked to Jipmer Director and Union Health Secretary over phone and they also confirmed this.
