MBBS Student commits suicide, five people including Medical College Principal booked for alleged harassment
Firozabad: In a shocking incident, a first-year MBBS student belonging to Dalit Community recently committed suicide on Saturday by hanging himself to death in his hostel room at Firozabad Medical College.
On the basis of the complaint lodged by the deceased student's father, who alleged that the medical college administration was harassing him for being a Dalit, the police has booked five people including the Principal of the medical college in this connection.
Apart from the college principal Dr. Sangeeta Aneja, Controller of Examination Gaurav Singh, hostel wardens Munish Khanna, Naushar Hussain and computer operator Ayush Jain have also been booked by the police, adds TOI.
All of them have been booked under IPC sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 3(2)(v) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. District Magistrate Ravi Ranjan said a committee has been formed to probe the incident.

The 21-year-old Dalit MBBS student, was found hanging from the ceiling of his hostel room at the Autonomous State Medical College, officials informed PTI.
Referring to the complaint lodged by Uday Singh Shankhwar, the father of the deceased student, Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Sarvesh Kumar Mishra said that as per the directions of the principal, the exam controller Singh had allegedly threatened to not allow the medico to sit in an examination. Casteist remarks were also allegedly hurled at him, he said.
According to the police, Shankhwar had an exam on Saturday. After he did not reach the examination hall, the college staff went to his hostel room to check on him and found it locked from inside. The staff broke open the door and found Shankhwar, a first-year MBBS student, hanging from the ceiling, he said.
The last rites of the student were conducted amid tight security on Sunday, police said, adding that the post-mortem examination of the deceased has also been done.
After hearing about the alleged suicide, students blocked the highway in front of the Firozabad district hospital for nearly four hours, demanding action against the college principal and the hostel warden. Police officials managed to persuade the students to clear the highway.
In this regard, the father of the deceased student told the Times of India, "My son used to speak out against the malpractices and lack of basic facilities in the college. The college authorities even threatened to fail him in exams and suspend him. He was not allowed to appear for the physiology exam that was held on Saturday morning. Hours later, he was found hanging in his hostel room."
