TN: Second year MBBS student hangs self at Dharmapuri Medical College hostel

Dharmapuri: In an unfortunate incident, a 21-year-old second-year MBBS student studying at the Dharmapuri Medical College Hospital has allegedly hanged himself in his hostel room.

The student has been identified as K Elamparithi, a second-year medical student of Muthunaickenpatti in Omalur taluk of Salem district.

On Saturday, the medico decided to take life as he was struggling with his studies and the pressure of completing the course. His hostel mates found his body hanging from the ceiling that evening and alerted the college authorities.

Later, the police were informed who registered a case after recovering a suicide note. Further investigation is underway.

Police inspector A Nawaz told TOI, "He was continuing the second-year studies for the second time after failing several subjects and was yet to clear his exams."

Police sent the body to the government hospital for postmortem.

After learning that their son had died, his parents M Kannan and K Premalatha, immediately reached the hostel. Other students and teachers expressed their condolences.
