Maharashtra: 591 MBBS seats and 941 BDS seats have remained vacant after 2 rounds of the NEET-UG counselling. With National Medical Commission (NMC) recently approving 150 new seats at 2 separate medical institutes, the overall total seats for MBBS count up to 741.

Maha CET Cell has announced that the seats remain vacant, and newly added seats will be fulfilled through a stray vacancy round which will be announced at the end of the month. The stray vacancy is the round of counseling that deals with seats left vacant or remaining unfiled after a mop-up round of MCC or state counseling. Colleges conduct this round to fill the left seat.

While discussing with Hindustan Times, a senior official from Maha CET Cell said, "vacant seats include the ones that were not confirmed either because the student has already bagged a seat in the all India round or is waiting for a betterment option in the upcoming round. We will also check with state University authorities to find out if seats from newly approved colleges can be included too for the stray vacancy round and then release an official seat matrix."

Admission process of NEET-UG-2021 for MBBS/BDS courses has started and round 2 of admission was completed on 14th March 2022. The seat allotment for MBBS/BDS is conducted on the seats permitted by the Medical Council of India or Dental Council of India and affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik Only. Candidates who have joined through AQI or Deemed Quota in rounds 1 or 2 of AQI counselling are not eligible for state counselling.

Recently Bharatratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College, and Teaching Hospital, Pune has been permitted for MBBS admission by NMC. The college has been permitted 100 seats.
