7 out of 10 MBBS seats still vacant: Jharkhand Medical Colleges Struggle to Fill Central Govt Nominee Seats
Jharkhand: As the counselling body prepares for the commencement of the third round of counseling for the 2023 session, a significant number of central government nominee seats remain unoccupied in Jharkhand's five medical colleges. Specifically, seven out of the ten central government nominee seats in the state are still vacant.
The central government nominee seats in Jharkhand's medical colleges have seen minimal uptake thus far. Out of these seats, only three have been filled, with two admissions at Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) in Hazaribagh and one admission at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) in Jamshedpur.
According to a report in Lagatar English, each medical college in the state of Jharkhand allocates two MBBS seats exclusively for central government nominees. These nominations extend to individuals chosen by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Defence, as well as representatives from states such as Meghalaya and Nagaland, which do not possess their medical institutions.
The current situation reveals that, at present, no central government nominees have applied for admission to the three other institutions within Jharkhand. These institutions comprise Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) in Dhanbad, Phulo Jhano Medical College Hospital (PJMCH) in Dumka, and Medinirai Medical College Hospital (MMCH) in Palamu.
